2018 DPS Wailer 112 Alchemist
The DPS Wailer 112 is a versatile freeride ski that DPS has updated for 2018 with their brand new construction, Alchemist. Let's touch on this construction before diving into ski performance. The Alchemist construction marks a huge step forward for carbon skis. It uses vibration-tuned aerospace grade carbon fiber that provides significantly more dampening than previous constructions seen from DPS. This provides a much smoother feel and less deflection than typical carbon construction. The shape of the Wailer 112 is quite versatile for a 112 mm ski. It can handle high speed, aggressive turns on hard pack snow, although the highlight might be the ski's performance in powder. The early tapered shape is super maneuverable and feels smooth and catch-free. It also planes out and surfs along the top of the snow at pretty low speeds, which is always impressive. It's pretty easy to throw around because of its light weight and is one of those skis that just makes you feel like a better skier as soon as you get on a pair. This Alchemist construction is so light that you could easily justify using this ski as an alpine touring backcountry powder ski, or you could put an alpine binding and just make it a resort crushing machine. Whatever you choose, you're going to have a blast shredding soft snow on the Wailer 112 Alchemist.
