The SkiEssentials.com Ruin and Rose Ski Movie Premier Recap // Ski Industry News
For the second year in a row SkiEssentials.com, Pinnacle Ski and Sports, and Inner Bootworks hosted a premiere of Matchstick Productions latest film in our home town of Stowe, Vermont to benefit High Fives Foundation. This season we enjoyed “Ruin and Rose”, a unique ski film that bounces back and forth between a post-apocalyptic world without water and classic, awe-inspiring skiing footage. We wanted to say thanks to the venue, our sponsors and partners, and of course all of you for attending and helping make it a successful evening!
The movie took place in the same venue as last year, the historic Rusty Nail. The Nail, as locals call it, is known for its live music, awesome parties, benefit events, and is rooted in the history of Stowe, Vermont. We love the Rusty Nail for our ski movie premieres as it offers an excellent mix of a dance floor, two full service bars, and upstairs game area, and plenty of space for socializing and movie viewing.
The night started with a “meet and greet” hour during which guests were met by SkiEssentials and High Fives representatives. Every guest received a bundle of free items from some of our sponsors, a free raffle ticket, and most importantly, lots of winter stoke. During the “meet and greet” hour we were treated to the groovy music of The Shady Trees while a throwback Matchstick Productions movie, High Society, played silently above them. Just like last year’s event we also enjoyed pizza slices from Piecasso Pizzeria and Lounge and guests were served by volunteers (and ripping semi-professional skiers) from the UVM Freeski Team.
Around 7:30 Mike Aidala (SkiEssentials.com) and Roy Tuscany (High Fives Foundation) kicked off the movie with a big thank you, some giveaways, a few raffle prize drawings, and again, more winter stoke. If you’re looking for a unique cinematic experience, you need to see “Ruin and Rose”. It’s unlike any ski movie we had ever seen and we really enjoyed being able to witness the movie for the first time surrounded by friends, family, and a whole bunch of ski enthusiasts.
After the movie Mike Aidala, Jeff Neagle (SkiEssentials.com), and Gina Miele (High Fives Foundation) hit the stage again to give away the rest of our awesome raffle prizes. Our sponsors for the evening included Pinnacle Ski and Sports, Inner Bootworks, Under Armour, The Alchemist Brewery, Skida, Stowe Mountain Resort, Volkl Skis, Marker Bindings, Smith Optics, Snocru, Stowe Area Association, Vermont Ski and Ride, and of course Piecasso. We raffled off ski clothing, lift ticket vouchers, lodging certificates, helmets and goggles, THREE pairs of skis, and much more! We want to extend a huge thank you to all of our sponsors for helping make the event possible and helping us raise money for High Fives Foundation through raffle ticket sales. After all the prizes were handed out and the audience was given a final thank you for their attendance, The Shady Trees jumped right back on stage so we could dance the night away.
We want to thank everyone involved (and especially our guests) for making it such a fun, successful night. Through ticket and raffle sales we were able to raise a healthy donation for High Fives Foundation and are so proud that our little ski community comes together for events like these. We’ve already started brainstorming how to make next year’s event even better, so keep an eye out for details!
