Elissa DeGolyer

Elissa DeGolyer was a very valuable addition to our test team. After multiple years of ski racing and her experience as a custom boot fitter at Inner Bootworks here in Stowe, Elissa has developed an analytical understanding of ski equipment and its effect on performance. She knows exactly why certain skis feel a certain way, and is an incredibly precise skier. We had a blast watching her rip around on the skis she was assigned and her positive attitude and boundless enthusiasm brought some energy and excitement to a couple gray-scale days. If you’re in Stowe, VT poke your head into Inner Bootworks and say hi to Elissa!

  1. Hello, I really need some help. I have done 9 winter seasons in the French and Swiss Alps and I would consider that I am or was an advanced/expert skier. However I now have children and whereas I skied mostly off piste, powder hounding and munching moguls, I now tend to ski blacks and reds when I get the chance but find myself skiing with my daughter on blues and reds predominantly on groomed piste.

I currently ski on some dated Rossignol Bandits, I think they are 180 but I loved them. I ski with my feet quite close together – I know it’s old fashioned in style and I am trying to open my skis a bit wider, but I really enjoy skiing really neat, stylish turns and when I get the opportunity I like to give it some welly and hoon down with long sweeping turns. I am 5 foot 8 inches and weigh 13 stone and losing!!!

I have been looking at Rossignol Temptations 84 but they are quite wide at 133mm and also some Blizzard Cheyenne 156 flat. I am veering towards the Blizzards as they are not so wide at the tip and I don’t want anything too wide. What would you recommend for me? Or are here any other skis that you would suggest. It’s a ski minefield out there!

Thank you so much for your help,

    Diana

    1. Hi Diana!

I’ll see if I can get Elissa to chime in, but I wanted to respond too.

I think you’ll find a lot of skis these days have tips that are quite wide. Most are definitely wider than your Bandits. Do you think you need to go all the way down to 156 cm length? If you’re coming off a 180 cm Bandit you might find those are a little too short. Feels a little short for your height and weight too. You’re in somewhat of a unique position because I think what’s going to be best for you will be a relatively narrow carving ski that also has a long turn radius so the tip isn’t exceptionally wide. I think the Cheyenne could actually work, but that length feels short. It’s also now called the Black Pearl 78 if you’re looking at newer models. The Alight 8.2 Ti I think could work really well too, but I would go longer than 156 cm if I were you. Check out the Volkl Flair series too, I think there are some models within that line that would accomplish what you’re looking for too.

      Hope that helps!
