The Atomic Vantage X 80 W women’s skis are the widest and also the most advanced skis in the women’s Vantage X collection. These skis are designed for high speed, relatively aggressive skiing. They lean towards use on firm snow, although have enough versatility to explore other terrain and conditions, especially the Vantage X 80 with its 80 mm waist width. Atomic describes them as light, strong, sporty, and smooth, which sounds like a perfect combination of performance characteristics for a women’s all mountain ski that loves groomed, resort terrain. Let’s find out what our testers thought.
Katrine Wolfgang almost gave the Vantage X 80 W 5 out of 5 for every category, with just flotation and versatility understandably coming in with slightly lower scores. Sure, it’s not a powder ski, and it does prefer to be skied on groomed slopes. Katrine was skiing the 159 cm and loved the ski’s strength, stability, and energy. She commented that the skis “held well in turns” and that they feel like a “steady ski”. Katrine also specifically commented that the skis are “fun going fast.”
Tami Razinger was also skiing the 159 cm and had a similar reaction to the ski, but added that they are incredibly quick edge to edge (she scored them 5 out of 5 for quickness). Tami had a nice response to the Vantage X 80 W, which really sums up her thoughts nicely. “The Atomic Vantage Women’s X 80 excelled in responsiveness and maneuverability. As a narrow ski it is not super versatile or playful, but holds an edge nicely and is great for all mountain resort terrain.” We think Tami’s comments are very accurate. It’s a tough ski to beat in terms of its “resort” performance. Ali Berlin agreed with the idea that they are a great choice for “resort” all mountain skis. Ali commented that they are “great for intermediate to expert skiers on groomed even terrain.” Ali found the skis to be very maneuverable, much like Tami’s response to the ski.
Susan Dorn had an absolute blast on the Atomic Vantage X 80 W. She too skied the 159 cm length and gave the ski 5 out of 5 for almost all categories, again with flotation being an exception. Susan had a comment filled with emotion and found the skis to be more versatile than some of our other testers. She said, “ooo eee! FUN! Could have skied on this all day. Quick, responsive, easy to turn. Good in bumps, crud, and (when) carving. Steady at speed.” She ended her comments on the Vantage X 80 W by saying that they’re “good for advanced women skiers and those that demand performance.”
We think our testers on the Atomic Vantage X 80 W really hit the nail on the head with their comments and reactions. It’s a great choice for an “all mountain resort” ski. It’s not to best when you start venturing into deep snow or really tricky terrain that calls for a more rockered, potentially lighter, and probably wider ski, but the Vantage X 80 W carves turns with excellent energy and responsiveness, it will hold an edge at high speeds, and does give you enough versatility for mogul runs, some light tree skiing, and other moderate off-piste terrain.
