2019 Dynastar Legend W 84 Women’s Skis

There’s a lot to like about the 2019 Dynastar Legend W 84. From its 5-point sidecut to its wood core construction, this ski is the epitome of performance and versatility. Featuring tip and tail rocker and a nice flex pattern, the skier will appreciate the ease of turn initiation and fun, surfy feel. The skis are best suited for on-piste terrain, but are certainly capable of performing and excelling at some adventurous skiing as well. There’s no mistaking the fact that these skis appeal to a large target audience, and will satisfy and exceed a lot of skiers’ idea of what a frontside/all-mountain ski is capable of. Our testers love the ease of use and friendly characteristics of the Dynastar Legend W 84.

Katie Perlmutter skied the 177 cm length and loved the forgiveness of the skis. She also gave high marks for stability, quickness, maneuverability, and playfulness. These are unsurprising scores, as the early tip taper allows for lightning-fast turn initiation. The faster you can start a turn, the more likely you are to make more turns, thus enhancing the playful nature of the skis. You’ll unlock the full potential of the W 84 with a flick of your ankle in the ski boot. The skis instantly will respond to your movements and react accordingly. For an all-mountain ski, this is a blessing. Katie calls the skis “playful and forgiving,” thus backing up her own scores.

Kristi Brown skied the 177 as well and commented that the skis have a very consistent feel. When you initiate the turn, you feel the ski hook up and bring you around. The early taper in the tip allows for the turn to start easily and without feeling “hooky.” She called the skis “easy going and had no surprises.” As a result, Kristi was able to relax, feel the skis on her feet, and enjoy the ride. At 84 mm underfoot, the skis are narrow enough to hold a great edge, and the width is just enough to stay afloat in some fresh snow and crud.

Ariel Aidala located the 156 cm length and took it for a couple of spins. She was pretty much right down the middle with all of her scores and marks. Everything to Ariel was exactly average. This speaks volumes about a pair of skis that is able to hold all of these qualities at the same time. That means that the skis will appeal to a really large target audience, and will make a lot of skiers happy at the same time. She managed to ski the Dynastar Legend W 88 and the W 84 in the same day, and couldn’t help but draw some comparisons between the two. Whereas the 88 has metal, the 84 does not. She found them to be “pretty similar to the W 88. The edge held quite nicely and they preferred to make wider, more open turns.” Ariel makes a nice comparison here, and astutely notes that the W 84 has some amazing edge grip, especially for a ski without metal.

Lady skiers of many different abilities will love the versatility and performance of the Legend W 84. With its early tip and tail taper, the skis are super maneuverable. That makes for a fun, and easy going day on the hill.
