At 102mm underfoot, the Ranger 102 FR has been designed for skiers looking for a super playful freeride, freestyle performance having a tail rocker profile. With the 102 FR having a semi-twin tip design, it greatly enhances the overall playfulness and especially the performance in soft snow. Get a few inches of fresh snow overnight, actually let's stay positive, let's call it a foot plus overnight and the new Ranger 102 FR skis will allow you to dance in the fresh powder through the trees, enjoying face shot after face shot. Sounds fun right? Having a lightweight wood core and Sandwich Sidewall Construction provides a balanced flex and perfect rebound for a lively, energetic performance. While the Air Tec Ti Technology present in the 102 FR core includes the right amount of titanium, giving skiers an optimal powerful performance with minimum weight added to the construction. Including Aeroshape Technology keeps these skis lightweight while maintaining very impressive torsional stability combining with the titanium in the core construction. The new Fischer Ranger 102 FR skis provide a great performance in all ski conditions, with a stable, maneuverable, and most importantly playful, fun performance! If you are a freeskier who likes to get his jib on, give these rippers a go, you will not be disappointed.

How doe you compare the Fisher 102FR to the 2018 Atomic Backand 102?
I ski the Atomic in a 188 now and really like it. When you reviewed it a few years ago your testers liked it quite a bit too. I use them as "daily driver" ski so I'm primarily interested in how you compare them for stiffness; flex pattern; crud and groomers. I'm 6' tall and 180lbs. Primarily ski West Coast (Squaw Valley / Alpine Meadows) and ski on average 40 days / year -- all terrain; primarily off piste unless condition warrant to stay on groomers.

Hi Rich!
I skied the Automatic 102 for a few years and loved it. The Ranger 102 is stiffer and heavier, but that's not saying a whole lot in comparison to the Atomic. Lots more edge grip and power out of the Ranger, but not quite as supple in the powder and crud. I always felt like that Atomic cruised right over anything. The Ranger prefers to plow through it a bit more. I think you'll love the 102, most likely the 184 cm I'd guess. Have fun!

How does this compare to the Dynastar Legend 106?
Question by: Stuart on Mar 30, 2020, 5:27 AM
Hi Stuart!
The Dynastar and its more dramatic taper make it a better floater. Since the wider parts of the skis are closer to your foot, it has a bouncy, unsinkable feeling in powder. The Ranger still floats for sure, but also has more versatility and playfulness built in for a greater variety of snow conditions and terrain. I'd peg the 106 as more of a pure powder ski versus the well-rounded 102. Take care!
