Stockli Stormrider 95 Skis with Bindings

Stockli arguably has one of the most devout followings of any brand in the industry and it's probably due to the unparalleled quality and precision apparent when you step onto a Stockli ski. A crowd favorite from the brand over the years has been the Stormrider 95; a perfectly versatile all-mountain freeride ski designed to handle anything at the resort. This year, the Stormrider comes back with some subtle changes that make it even more effective that it was in its previous renditions. Stockli's signature Stormrider construction of a lightweight wood core and a dual laminate of Titanal are still featured in the design of the ski, providing that classic smooth feel we all know and love from this line of skis. What really changed for this season is the tip shape. Stockli uses their new Freeride Tip Technology in all of the Stormrider this season. This new shape is lighter and is shaped a bit differently to enhance float and surfyness, making all of the Stormrider's perform better in softer conditions. Other than the tip shape, everything else basically remains as is. A nice bit of tail rocker allows the ski to release very easily when you want to whip the skis around in some tighter terrain, while the camber underfoot lets you lay the ski over on edge into some deep carves on the groomed terrain. The Stormrider is a fantastic daily driver option for skiers that aren't bound by the confines of the groomed trails and who enjoy shredding any and all terrain.

I’m interested in picking up skiing after some 31 years of not skiing. My last time on the intermediate slopes was in January, 1990, at Alta.
If there’s good news in this ambition it’s that I haven’t been physically dormant over this long stretch, as my sport is running, short- and long-distance. So, I’m hoping my natural balance, being used to absorbing the shock of the roadway will help me transition back into skiing.

Anyway, I’m mesmerized by the 2022 Stockli Stormrider 95 Skis. Beautiful skis appearance-wise and also impressive in their durability. I’m encouraged that, perhaps, I might be able to work my way into these skis at the shorter length of 166. Given my woeful skiing experience, is this unthinkable? I’m 5’11”, 160 lbs., and age 69.

Two review comments give me hope. First, the Overview in Ski Comparisons-Ski Reviews states, in part: “The most impressive thing, though, is that they also handle more moderate speeds, making these skis some of the best-possible tools for a variety of skiers and skier types.” Second, Outside Magazine’s Winter Buyer’s Guide 2021-2022 made this intriguing comment about the Stormriders: “The Stormriders have no speed limit,” ‘said one tester,’ “but you can ski them slow too.”

Based on the above, what would you advise?

Thanks for your guidance!

Hello Anthony,

I personally just tested the Stormrider 95, and the reviews are spot on. The best ski i have ever been on in the mid-90's width category. Can do everything well and has no weaknesses. You will notice the difference on the very first turn you make. Can be skied at any speed and does a variety of turn shapes, in any condition. Stockli are expensive but worth it. The absolute pinnacle for all-mountain versatility. Based on your stats, a 166cm length would be way too short. We would normally size you at a 180. But, you could certainly go down to the 175cm length. That would be perfect for you.

Hope this helps and think snow!

What is the weight of the Stormrider 95 in 184cm? What is the measured tip & tail rocker?
Question by: Kurt on Jan 4, 2022, 1:24 AM
Hi Kurt,

1925 grams at the 184 cm length.

We don't "measure" tip and tail rocker. Long camber in this ski with good tip rise. Not much rocker in the tail.

Hope this helps!

Thanks for the information. How does the tip and tail profile compare to Enforcer 94 or Pagoda Piste 94 C2? More or less tail rocker when compared to either of these?
Question by: Kurt on Jan 4, 2022, 1:36 PM
Kurt-

The Stockli will have the most tip rocker will minimal splay in the tail . The Nordica and and Piste 94 will have similar splay in both the tip and tail. If you are considering another ski other than the Stockli here, I would certainly go Nordica Enforcer 94 as DPS is more of soft snow oriented ski. The Enforcer is much more well rounded and versatile, especially when the snow gets firm.

Hope this helps.
