Volkl Blaze 106 Skis
The Volkl Blaze 106 skis are an awesome choice for true 50/50 skiing, in any and all senses of the terms and application. For in and out of bounds skiing, on and off trail performance, and uphill as well as downhill capabilities, the Volkl Blaze 106 holds a lot of things in their hands all at the same time. At 106 mm underfoot, you're looking at some good float due to surface area, but it's not just the width that makes these good floaters. There's some good tip and tail taper shape and rocker profile that lift the ski up and allow it to stay on top of a good deal of snow. These skis have that smeary and surfy feeling that makes a lot of skiers very happy. They're light enough to be a dedicated touring ski, coming in at 1772 grams per ski in the 186 cm length, so when you pair it with your favorite uphill binding and boot setup, you're getting a ton of performance at a very light weight. Built with Volkl's Hybrid Multi-Layer wood core, these skis are able to stay remarkably light while retaining a ton of energy and snap to them. Even if you find yourself on harder snow, either by choice or by force, you're going to get tremendous edge grip and control. Stiff underfoot, the skis have a titanal power plate that not only helps with binding retention, but also with torsional stiffness. This makes the 106 much grippier and more energetic than you might think, making this the true blend of all types of performance capabilities.
