2019 Blizzard Alight 8.2 Ti Women’s Skis

The 2019 Blizzard Alight 8.2 Ti is a fantastic all-mountain carving ski that is sure to appease ladies on the upper end of the skiing spectrum. For the most part, the ski is most at home on-trail, it’s a stiffer version of the 8.2 CA. At 82 mm underfoot, the ski can handle softer snow, but surely is better suited for on-piste carving and the like. Blizzard has filtered the technology that they use in the popular Quattro line into the ladies Alight series, and as a result, you get some top-end quality in these skis. If you like railing turns on the groomers and leaving huge trenches behind you, the Blizzard Alight 8.2 Ti is your ski. Our testers, by and large, love the damp and stable feeling of the skis.

Chloe Wexler skied the 162 cm length and found that it skied a bit short. She commented on the heft of the ski and noted that it felt solid and stable. In her mind, it’s a “heavier ski, maybe best for heavier skiers. Also, it’s stiff, but also stiff feeling through carves.” She also noted that the more energy you put in, the more you got out, so the ski is better suited for aggressive skiers.

Ann MacDonald, also skiing the 162, gave high marks for playfulness and forgiveness. She’s a pretty aggressive and accomplished skier, so that reinforces Chloe’s take on the levels of input necessary to make the ski react. Overall, she was impressed with the performance and character of the ski. “Fun, lively ski for girls who like groomers—forgiving and easy turning.” She also noted that the ski lacked in versatility, implying that the skis are best for groomers.

Pascale Savard gave the ski average scores in playfulness and forgiveness, but loved the stability and edge hold of the Alight 8.2 Ti. Overall, she was impressed with the friendliness of the ski: “Felt like a nice and friendly ski—not overly aggressive.” This seems in line with other skiers of her caliber, and leads us to believe that a fair amount of advanced skiers would love the confident nature of the skis. Her other important take was that the skis “held a good edge on longer turns, but not snappy enough for short turns.” The titanal layers in the skis are probably too stiff for less aggressive skiers to push though short turns, but they don’t seem to hinder long turn performance whatsoever.

Mar Kuhnel felt that they skied a bit longer than expected, and gave the skis high marks for stability and torsional stiffness. We’d expect that type of feedback based on the construction of the skis, as well as her lower-end score for versatility. Certainly an on-trail oriented ski, the Alight 8.2 Ti has a lot of material sandwiched together in a small area. She commented: “the Alight 8.2 Ti was pretty stable at speed. It wants to make short radius turns but can be coaxed into very smooth medium-radius turns with very little effort.” Although a bit contrary to Pascale’s take, the takeaway is that the skis want to carve and be on edge. She also noted that the “Ti makes for very little chatter over frozen groomed surface.”

Again, this is great input that makes us conclude that the skis are solid, stable, and stiff. If you’re an aggressive skier that likes to push your skis to their limit, this is a great option for you. Conversely, if you’re less aggressive, but are confident and capable of rolling your edges and holding longer radius turns, then you’ll find a sweet spot on the 2019 Blizzard Alight 8.2 Ti as well.
