2019 Fischer My Ranger 89 Women’s Skis

The 2019 Fischer My Ranger 89 is a perfect example of a ladies all-mountain ski that shreds the groomers and is up for any off-piste adventures you can throw at it. By utilizing the ever-present Ranger technology in terms of design and build, Fischer has created a high-performance product that will suit a wide range of skiers on a large variation of terrain. Our testers both skied the 165 cm length and both remarked as to the stability, quickness, and maneuverable nature of the skis. Featuring a wood core, dual Titanal layering, and Carbon Nose technology, the My Ranger 89 is a total rock star of an all-mountain ski. At 89 mm underfoot, the My Ranger is capable of floating through some soft snow, but would rather be making some sweet carves on-piste. The long and low tip rocker makes the ski look flatter and shorter than it actually is, but that’s merely an illusion. Advanced lady skiers will love the precise edge feel and torsional stiffness that make the My Ranger 89 a formidable competitor in a field rife with proficient skis.

Ariel Aidala picked right up on the fact that the My Ranger 89 has some lightweight characteristics that cannot be overlooked. “This all-around ski was very light with the carbon in the tip and preferred to be on the harder snow conditions.” Sounds like the skis got bounced around quite a bit in the soft snow that we had on test day. “In the right conditions such as powder and groomers, this ski does quite well.” She adds that “this ski was smeary and slarvy, and you had to be on top of them.” This type of user awareness is very important when it comes to stiff, all-mountain skis—especially when they’re made by Fischer. The amount of energy that you get out of them is directly related to the amount of effort that you put in. As such, if you slouch your turns, you’ll probably get bucked. There’s nothing wrong with that, as far as the skis are concerned, but for the user, you’d better be ready. Fischer has been making no-nonsense all-mountain skis for quite some time, and they’re not about to stop now. Ariel’s high mark for quickness and maneuverability should not go unnoted, because for an all-mountain ski, you need to have a lot of qualities going for you, but if you can’t get the skis from edge to edge, you’re going to have a bad time. All of her other scores were right down the middle average, which leads us to believe that the My Ranger 89 has a very broad appeal and is a true Jill of all trades.

Josi Kytle found the skis to be stable, floaty, and forgiving. She loved the fact that they didn’t feel short, even though the sizing wasn’t to her liking. She wasn’t overly impressed with the torsional stiffness of the skis, but that did not stop her from ripping a few runs on the My Rangers. The solid nature of the skis really stood out to Josi. Fischer has been making stout boards for a long time, and Josi is certainly picking up on this fact. Additionally, she found that the My Ranger 89 preferred short turns and staying in the fall line. Thanks to the long and low tip rocker, she also appreciated their soft snow performance. Her scores fell widely across the board, leading us to believe that she likes the ski as an all-mountain ripper.

Fischer has done a great job making a ladies ski that is a perfect match for some east coast carving. Skiers will also appreciate the versatility that the waist width allows.
