*Full disclosure: The My Ranger (Women’s version) was not present for testing. We had four women skiers test the men’s version (Ranger 98 Ti) in a 180 cm length as substitute. Other than the length not being offered in the My Ranger, the skis are the same.
The 2019 Fischer My Ranger 98 Ti is an awesome all-mountain ski for ripping lady skiers who want to get the most out of a single product. These skis sit squarely in the middle of the one-ski quiver discussion, and at 98 mm wide underfoot, they are willing and capable of handling a huge workload in any type of snow condition and in any type of terrain. From steeps and trees to groomers and bumps, advanced to expert level skiers will love the stability, versatility, and edge hold of the My Ranger 98. Our testers were enamored with the hard-charging nature of the skis, and completely sold on the long tip rocker that assists in flotation and turn initiation.
Emily Crofton loved the torsional stiffness and edge hold of the Ranger 98. She also scored the skis 5 out of 5 for overall impression. She noted that they “handled all condition really well, ripped at high speeds, and was all around very solid, fun, and edgeable. She also noted that at 180 cm, the ski was longer than she normally would use, but that they felt short, a common theme with the Fischer Ranger series that we’ve noticed throughout the test.
Ann MacDonald also found the 180 cm length to feel short, but that did not stop her from giving the skis top marks for stability, torsional stiffness, and edge hold. She calls them “big stiff sticks. The carbon in the tip kept it stable—didn’t bounce around. All over, the skis were stiff and unforgiving—very stable throughout high speed GS turns.” For an aggressive and accomplished skier like Ann, it’s quite a compliment to say that the skis did not waver at speed, even for an all-mountain freeride ski. Fischer has definitely found a nice medium here with these skis insofar as they can double as high speed cruisers and soft snow mashers.
Elissa DeGolyer marked the skis as 5 out of 5 for overall impression. She also gave high marks for flotation and edge hold. That’s a great combination to have for sure! Elissa skis the Enforcer 93, so she’s no stranger to skis like this. She commends the skis for their “early rise and tradition al camber that fits my ski style.” Continuing, she notes that “this heavy-duty ski charges through whatever obstacles in the snow you may encounter.” For bulldozing through moguls and crud, Elissa finds the Ranger 98 to be more than adequate.
Caroline Kessler found the skis to be quick, maneuverable, and playful. Her overall impression of 4 out of 5 speaks volumes about her ability to put the Ranger through its paces. She calls it “very hard charging and stable especially for how light they are! Lots of tip rocker floats you above the crud and the stable construction busts right through it. An awesome all-mountain ski for anyone intermediate to very advanced. They’re light weight, but can seriously shred!”
Lots of good stuff here coming from Fischer, and thanks to our lady testers for not only ripping a bigger sized men’s ski, but also providing invaluable and accurate feedback.
