The Fischer Spider 62 Crown skis are a perfect choice for adventure skiers who want a great blend of performance and stability. With a bit wider of a shape and metal edges, the Spider 62 loves to scoot all over the place, from the track to the trails and everywhere else you can dream of going. The Spider name is pretty appropriate, as it seems like you have multiple legs/feet to grip the snow and climb whatever hills you choose. The 62/52/60 sidecut allows for some good control on the downhills, while remaining straight enough to be a competent and confidence-inspiring in-track setup. The IFP plate allows the skier to move the bindings forward or back depending on need and ski style. Keeping it all light and fun is the Air Tec core which consists of a full wood core that has air channels milled out of them. You get the same stiffness and stability, but with less weight. Our testers certainly picked up on this win-win situation, as they all pretty much love the versatility and fun-loving nature of the Fischer Spider 62.
Brad Schauerman is a fun-loving adventurous skier, and lo and behold, he was a huge fan of the Spider 62. His top marks of 5’s out of 5 for his 179 cm length ski were for versatility and overall impression. Speed and weight were his two average scores, and this is an unsurprising compromise that a lot of skiers will end up making due to the overall versatility of the Spider 62. Brad calls it “a great go-anywhere, do-anything ski. Tracks well, climbs well, and goes downhill well. The metal edge is very helpful for stability and maneuverability.” Fittingly, he ends with “Awesome ski!”
Shelby Parenteau skied the 169 and was very pleased with the overall nature of the ski, with her overall experience actually earning a 5 out of 5. Her comments and feelings about the ski are pretty clear: “I think this was my favorite ski of the day! It just seems to be a ‘ski right out of the door’ kind of ski. Good glide, light weight, this ski gripped well on the uphill. Metal edges was a big plus for me. You could dig in if you weren’t getting the necessary traction. On the down, they were speedy, stable, and maneuverable. Again, metal edges made turning a breeze. Great ski!” Well said, Shelby!
Allison Ruschp also skied the 169 and had a pretty similar experience as Shelby. Alli calls it the “best overall classic/BC ski—most versatile ski in the group. Great for both on and off-trail. This is the ski for someone looking to ski 50/50 trail and off-trail, leaning towards backcountry with the edges and stability. They still hold plenty of glide on-trail to keep up with the true classic skis.” Another great review as to the overall performance and enjoyment level of the Spider 62.
Marcus Shakun hopped on a 189 and loved the stability and versatility of the skis. He notes that “the stiffness and the stability really allowed for this ski to be very versatile. Its stiffness allows it to be a more versatile ski for beginners and intermediates.” Marcus mentioned the comparison to the Rossignol OT 65, so for skiers looking for another option, that should be on the list.
Our testers were very impressed with the stability, grip, and fun-loving nature of the Fischer Spider 62, and for skiers looking to push their boundaries and explore the vast winter woods, this is a setup worth checking out.
