The Salomon S/LAB Carbon Skate is a newly redesigned ski from Salomon. The Carbon Skate skis are not only made to be really light-weight, but are also built to deliver superior performance to those looking to step up their game out on the Nordic trails. The S/Lab Carbon Skate ski was designed to excel in cold and dry conditions. The full-carbon construction has resulted in an extremely efficient ski. This Carbon Skate ski is the lightest ski Salomon has made thus far. Check out what our testers have to say about the all new S/LAB Carbon Skate ski.
Karin Rand was “impressed by the stability of the S/LAB Carbon Skate ski.” Karin tried out the 187 cm length and was “shocked at how smooth it was.” She felt that the wider tip of the ski helped to stabilize the glide. The Carbon Skate ski has high camber for better performance in icy conditions, however this same feature can slow down the glide on softer snow. This same camber makes the skis feel lively and energetic on every stride. Overall, Karin enjoyed how lightweight and fast the S/LAB Carbon Skate ski was. When ripping around tight turns at Trapps, the S/LAB Carbon Skate ski was “quite responsive.”
Ellen Curran found the S/LAB Carbon Skate Blue to be “fast and race ready.” Ellen used the 174 cm model and found it responded well to quick, lightweight steps which is perfect for skiers who like to go fast. These skis are “incredibly maneuverable and seem to be quite versatile on soft and hard snow.” Ellen found these skis to “glide well on the soft snow and still grip into the hard pack.” The S/LAB carbon skate skis are narrow skis, but still are very stable. These skis are high performing so they might be overkill for beginners looking to get their first pair of skate skis.
Mackenzie Rizio took a few laps on the S/LAB Carbon Skate skis and found them to be quite versatile for their high level of performance. Mackenzie used the 182 centimeter blue (soft) model and felt they were too soft for her top level skills. Overall, Mackenzie found the S/LAB Carbon Skate skis to have “good glide in many conditions and were quite lightweight.” She found the S/LAB to be “primarily a race ski, but might be best for an avid recreational skier who wants race quality skis.”
Jeff Neagle found the S/LAB Carbon Skate Blue made him “feel stronger than he actually was.” This is a great attribute of any ski, for who would not want to feel stronger? Jeff would “strongly recommend this ski to anyone involved in racing.” The S/LAB Blue flex was good for his weight and a result, it felt like a very smooth ski. Jeff tried out the 182 centimeter model and appreciated the forgiving character, which he thought may have to do with the stiffness and flex level. Overall Jeff summed the S/LAB Carbon Skate Blue ski to be “refreshing.”
The S/LAB skate ski is an extremely lightweight skate ski that will improve your experience and speed. If you’re trying to keep up with your quick friend or family member, this ski will give you a competitive edge.
