Volkl Deacon 72 Master Skis

The Volkl Deacon 72 Master skis are the narrowest offering in the Deacon line up, Volkl has taken World Cup level construction and trickled it down in a width that's slightly wider than a conventional GS ski with a much shorter turn radius. At 16.4 meters in a 178 length, it's not a slalom short turning, but short enough to make a good skier really come across the fall line with quickness and consistency. A World Cup Ash core is paired with full Titanal construction, Tailored Carbon Tips and World Cup binding plate. There is also a little bit of tip and tail rocker to smooth out turn initiation and give the ski a more forgiving and approachable feel to this ski compared to a full-on race ski. The result is powerful, responsive and quick turning ski for the true expert skier who like to rip a flurry of turns down a face of a groomer. It's a true front side ski that really shines on groomed surfaces. It's not really intended to be skied off trail unless you have impeccable technique and are strong. But for those who want to light up a groomer with a lot of rapid style like turns, the Volkl Deacon Master skis would be a great choice as your true carving machine. Find a groomer under a chair lift and turn heads as you rip Hollywood turns.

Hi, I am 48 yr old 6’ tall, 195lbs ex ski racer. 80%+ of my ski days are east coast groomers. I’m currently skiing ~ 5 years old Volkl RTM 81 at 176cm and a 2021 Hero masters @180cm with 21M turn radius. Loving the Hero’s stability at speed, the harder and faster you ski them the better they ski. I find the Volkls less “turny” and defiantly “twitchy” at higher speed. I’m looking for a mid/shorter turn radius ski that is full of quick turn energy and bite but potentially still stable at 40mph+ speed.

I’d love for you to compare and contrast the

Thank you!

Hi Daniel,

Both use trickle down race technology but in a more user friendly application.

The Hero Elite is wider and will give better soft snow performance but has a longer turning radius.

The Deacon 72 is narrower in the waist with better hard snow grip and a shorter turning radius at 15.4. Its plenty stable at speed using World Cup ash and two sheets of metal in its core. I would go w the Volkl which will satisfy your shorter turn radius and your need for speed.
