2024 BLACK CROWS CAPTIS SKIS
"5..4..3..2..1.. We have ignition” tighten your seatbelts and get ready for lift off, the 2024 Black Crows Captis is back and ready to take flight. Just by the motto itself, thoughts of rocket ships, airtime, and missiles come to mind. All of which also come to mind when we took the 2024 Captis to the snow. They like to go fast and go high in the air whenever possible. The perfect choice for someone looking to have fun in all areas of the resort. Returning unchanged for the 2024 season except for a graphic’s refresh, the Captis is precise yet maneuverable and a ski that can be enjoyed throughout the winter season.

The Captis is made up of a poplar wood core which is reinforced with two fiberglass laminates. Poplar is an extremely popular material for the core of skis because of its energy and pop.The fiberglass laminates encase the poplar core to provide dampness and torsional stiffness. This choice of core materials makes perfect sense for the Captis as it is designed to be responsive and dynamic.By doing this, the Captis is stable at high speeds on groomers as well as through choppy, variable snow as well as provide a high degree of edge grip on firm snow. TheCaptis strikes a great balance between energy and stability with this construction. At the 178.4cm length, the pair weighs 3600 grams which makes for a low swing weight that translates into maneuverability. By keeping the construction simple, they are predictable and very approachable to a variety of skiers of all ability levels.

The Captis has a classic all-mountain shape that is skewed towards a directional twin tip rather than a symmetrical twin tip. Profile-wise, the Captis has a rocker/camber/rocker profile with about 15% tip rocker, 75% camber, and 10% tail rocker. This profile lends for a relatively long effective edge while maintaining a high degree of playfulness. The long effective edge does wonders to provide edge grip on firm snow conditions. Within the Black Crows line, the Captis is certainly the most park oriented and that comes through especially in its shape. While there is significant camber, they pivot, smear, and slide to the Nth degree. At the 178.4cm length, the Captis has a maximum forebody width of 128mm, a waist width of 90mm, and a tail width of 114mm. These dimensions make for a well-rounded all-mountain, freestyle inspired ski that is both approachable and specialized. Although on the narrow side, the 128mm width in the tip supplies some great floatation in soft and slushing snow conditions. The taper found between the tip and tail significantly contributes to smooth and effortless turn initiation.
The 2024 Black Crows Captis is a playful all-mountain ski that should be considered by resort freeriders that like to play but also like to do some directional skiing. With a burly but lively build and highly versatile shape, these skis are just as happy on trail as they are in the park. They are one of Black Crows’ most popular skis and that is for good reason. Their heavily freestyle influenced, all-mountain capabilities make them approachable to such a wide array of skiers and ability levels. If you are someone looking for a playful and nimble ski that does sacrifice much in the way of all-mountain performance, the Captis should surely be on your “must try” list.
