2025 BLIZZARD PHOENIX R14 PRO WOMEN'S SKIS W/ TPX 12 BINDINGS
For 2024, the Blizzard Phoenix R14 Pro remains a top model in the ladies front side department. This ski is built to rip. From the narrow waist to the dual-metal laminate, the Phoenix R14 Pro has a ton of power and strength to go along with the mid-range arc and the endless edge grip. By harnessing all of the properties that we get in the Thunderbird line of skis, that are hence borrowed from the race grouping, the Phoenix R14 Pro gets the benefits of all that technology filtering through the lines and ending up right here. Skiers who are looking at the Phoenix R14 Pro should have a decent set of skills in the ski world—perhaps you’re a former racer looking to reclaim the glory, or maybe you’re an expert skier that’s looking to enter the world of beer league ski races. Either way, this ski carves very clean and round turns, focusing on the arc with a racer’s eye.

The build is substantial on this ski, as it basically has every component that is available. Blizzard starts with a TrueBlend Piste wood core that consists of a mix of 11 beech stringers for density and power and then placing them between 3 poplar blocks of wood that contain energy and relative light weight. We then get two layers of titanal on top and bottom to complete the sandwich style of construction, and then an Active Carbon Armor laminate. By using a floating carbon layer underfoot and extending towards the mid body and tail, the flex of the ski moves the layer fore and aft to keep the ski stiff underfoot while still moving freely. The carbon is not easy to move, so it does take some pressure and strength to fully access the performance of this ski. Without the binding or plate, the ski is on the heavy side, tipping the scale at about 1800 grams per ski. With that weight comes stability, though, putting a lot of power at the toenails of the skier.

When it comes to front side shape, most of it has to do with the radius. The dimensions in this ski in the 170 measure 121/70/102 mm, combining to create a 14.5-meter arc. This is a great mid-range arc that allows for sharp and crisp turning in a firm snow format. There’s a lot to like here as it makes it accessible for local races as well as total on-piste carving. There’s not a lot to talk about when it comes to rocker or taper, as this ski is fully cambered with zero taper. Edge contact is long and smooth as the ski relies on a long running length to access the performance and ride quality.
Make no mistake, this narrow-waisted and metal-filled ski is here to rip. Built with a race-like quality that’s of the highest order, the 2024 Blizzard Phoenix R14 Pro is one of the sharpest and strongest skis in the range. Ladies who spend most or all of their time in pursuit of the perfectly carved turn will get along just fine with the strong, sturdy, and powerful Phoenix R14 Pro. All others may have a tougher time accessing the entirety of the performance.
