2024 DYNASTAR E-PRO 90 OPEN WOMEN'S SKI

$699.95

For all-mountain ladies who spend a lot of time in a carved turn, this ski is a total treat. Ask anyone who’s been on a Dynastar E-Pro 90—this thing rips. Unchanged for 2024, the E-Pro 90 blends the front side and the back side with more power and versatility than most other skis out there. This is a mullet-style ski with a floaty tip and a business-like tail. In softer snow, bumps, trees, and more rowdy terrain, the shovel of the ski has the taper and rocker to float and maneuver with ease while on groomers and firmer snow, the metallic and more squared-off tail grips tight to the snow surface and provides an impressive amount of rebound and feedback into the next turn. We’ve also found that this ski just doesn’t get the traction it deserves, and other than the more muted graphics, we can’t quite figure out why. Sometimes the look is all it takes, and while some skiers certainly enjoy a plain topsheet, it’s clearly not popping off of shop walls or internet pages.

The big thing about Dynastar’s construction is the use of a hybrid core. The central portion of the ski is made from poplar, giving the ski a nice blend of lighter weight and higher energy. On top of the core, we get Dynastar’s Titanal Rocket Frame laminate which serves as the main power driver in the ski. This laminate is full width underfoot, tapering to a narrow point in the forebody, but staying wide and long through the tail. This gives the ski a more playful shovel and front third while the underfoot zone and back through the tail are quite a bit stiffer and more powerful. On the sides of the ski, we get Dynastar’s use of Polyurethane that creates half of the hybrid core. This material is not dissimilar to that found in 120-flex alpine ski boots, providing a smooth and damp feel to the ski with a unique sense of energy. The blend of wood, metal, and PU in this ski give the E-Pro 90 something that no other brand can offer when it comes to mixing silence, energy, and stability. In the 162, the ski hits the scale at 1675 grams, giving it a solid weight for pure all-mountain skiing at a variety of levels.

The shape lends to all-mountain versatility as well, mainly because it pairs well with the build. The tapered and rockered tips align with the lack of metal in that zone, while the flatter and more squared tails fit with the metallic build in the back. While there’s nice camber underfoot, the bigger story here is the more playful tip shape that makes this ski float and hover through the fresh and soft snow. The tail is pretty standard for a high-performance all-mountain ski as it holds tight to the end of the turn, allows for proper carving and release, and keeps the skier engaged when the snow is firm, which it is, a lot of the time. In the 162, the 88 mm waist is surrounded by a 118mm tip and 108mm tail to generate a 13-meter turn radius. For skis of this width, that’s slightly on the shorter side when compared to others in this class, putting more emphasis on the skier and how they choose to alter the shape and duration of their turns.

There’s little to no reason why this ski isn’t more successful or popular. Everyone who has skied it has had something good to say about it—there's a bunch of universal appeal in the way this ski approaches the mountain. Most skiers looking for something in the all-mountain range all say nearly the same thing—they want a ski that carves well on firm snow and floats well in soft snow. The Dynastar E-Pro 90 covers those bases better than most.
