2024 K2 Mindbender 108 Ti Ski

2024 K2 MINDBENDER 108 TI SKI

$799.95

On the beefy side of the directional freeride spectrum, the 2024 K2 Mindbender is a fun and surfy ski that has a strong backbone to boost performance. We’ve been big fans of this ski ever since it came out a few years ago, and with the changes that happened last year, the sophistication and smoothness has been taken to the next level. As a result, the 108Ti is an ideal choice for advanced and expert skiers who like a challenge and love a strong ski. The improvements from last year bring the ski more to the freeride side of the spectrum with some tweaks to the metal laminate as well as an increase in rocker and taper, but overall, the ski retains a lot of the same rugged good looks and performance as before. While most skiers will use the 108Ti as more of a soft snow ski, there is definitely an argument to be made as a daily driver ski for those who ski mainly in snowier zones. Here in Vermont, it’s a lot of ski, especially in tighter spots, making the 108Ti a better choice for those who find themselves in wider spaces.

Built with a blend of fir and aspen in the wood core, the ski gets a poppy central chord with dense and stable fir along the sides for edge grip and power. The blend makes a lot of sense in a powerful directional freeride ski like this, but they don’t stop there. By utilizing their Titanal Y-Beam laminate to dampen and stiffen the ski, K2 brings the 108Ti to the aggressive side of the spectrum. This shaped laminate has prongs that extend along the sides from the mid body to put more precision and emphasis on the front of the ski. This fits in with the directional nature of the 108Ti. The metal is full-width underfoot, and it tapers to more of a central spine in the tail, leaving the edges of the ski unencumbered by the metal. If it were full metal the whole way through, the ski just wouldn’t have the right ratio of playfulness to performance. It does add up, though, with the 108Ti tipping the scale at 2265 grams in the 186 cm length. Weight does equate to stability, though, so if you don’t mind lugging some extra mass around, you’re going to get fantastic performance.

The shape and profile contribute to the freeride side of the ski, with longer rocker in both tip and tail than there used to be, and a smoother taper shape to make it cleaner through the fresh. The taper and rocker align better with where the metal ends, making the tips and tails smearier and more maneuverable while being less catchy and hooky on firmer snow. These skis do carve, after all, thanks to the metal and the sidecut. At 22.8-meters in radius, the arc of the ski is on the long side, so it does prefer more fall-line skiing, and in that realm the Mindbender 108Ti is quite comfortable. This gives skiers more confidence to attack and be aggressive regardless of conditions or terrain. That said, this also makes it slightly prohibitive for those who aren’t ready for this type of behavior from a ski.

Overall, we have always enjoyed our time on the Mindbender 108Ti. There’s a caveat here, that this ski isn’t meant for everyone, and that’s okay. It’s fine to have a powerful and unique ski out there like this. There’s tons of aggressive skiers who value stability and ruggedness over agility and quickness. This is not to say that the ski can’t be these things, you just have to work harder for them.
