2024 LIBERTY ORIGIN 112 SKIS
As the widest of the Origin series of skis, the 112 is an amazingly playful and fun-loving freeride ski that can float with the best of them and create very round and maneuverable turns in the process. Origin has had a long-standing tradition for being some of the most fun skis in the game, and that certainly continues into 2024. The Origin 112 returns unchanged for this year except for a graphics update but remains the same great option for those who make rounder more playful turns in softer snow. The shape and style of the ski lends itself to creative skiing, and that’s just the way Liberty has always wanted it. They’ve built their empire on fun-loving skis that skirt the line between freestyle and freeride, giving adventurous and powder-seeking skiers a fantastic option for soft snow performance.

Built with Liberty’s VMT 1.0 core, we get a blend of poplar, bamboo, and paulownia in the mix. The interesting part here is the use of vertical metal in the center of the ski, providing quite a bit of dampness and silence while not using as much metal as in a full horizontal laminate. In this realm, Liberty is able to quiet the ski, make it sturdy and stable, and allow it to still flex and bend to the whims of the softer snow. It works, and it provides the Origin 112 with a very unique feel that is not really replicated in the freeride market today. Because there’s simply a lot of ski, it does carry with it some extra weight, tipping the scale at 2150 grams in the 184. While there are certainly more hefty skis out there, this 112 still is able to be maneuverable and agile despite going past the 2100-gram mark.

The shape sets the ski apart almost as much as the build. While the VMT 1.0 is a very unique way to build a ski, the roundness of the ski as a whole makes it stand out from the other 112’s out there today. You can almost see the ski making round, smeary, slashy turns out there, mainly due to the taper shape and rocker profile. While we still get camber underfoot to provide grip and pop, there’s a fair amount of rocker in the tips and tails that provide ample flotation even in very deep snow. The taper is on the dramatic side as well, with the ends of the ski coming to a pretty pointy shape. This allows the ski to cut through the powder, crud, and chop in a smooth and endearing manner. The radius is a bit longer than most, at 21.5-meters in the 184, putting more emphasis on the skier and their whims as to what type of turn to create. Liberty does a great job letting the skier do the work and creating a seamless interaction between human and ski.
These 2024 Liberty Origin 112’s are a fantastic choice for advanced and expert freeride skiers who spend most of their time in fresh and soft snow. They have an even flex, a smooth shape, and a sophisticated build that affords creative and interpretative skiing. While this shape has been around for a few years now, it was certainly ahead of its time in terms of what modern-day freeriders are looking for. Liberty sticks to their meat and potatoes with the Origin 112, and we’re stoked to see it continue to hit the snow.
