2024 SCOTT PURE PRO 109TI SKI

$850

On the wider and more fun-loving side of the Scott ski spectrum, the Pure Pro 109 is an amazing option for big mountain freeriders and powder lovers alike. Scott makes surprisingly traditional skis that have a whole lot of functionality to them, all the while keeping the weight down, the pop up, and the overall feeling quite smooth. This is an athlete-driven ski that is built and shaped to be used at high speeds and in deep snow. That said, it’s impressive how agile and nimble it is for such a big ski with big personality. In the world of ~109’s out there, this one falls to the more directional side of the spectrum, with slightly less rocker and taper, but still a whole lot of fun built in.

By blending paulownia and beech in the wood core, we’re starting with a light and snappy base. The beech does most of the heavy lifting when it comes to the overall stability and power of the ski while the paulownia provides the energy and pop. Scott uses a titanal reinforcement to the underfoot zone, and while this mainly looks like a binding retention plate, the way it’s seated into the ski and the extension zones in the front and back, it’s more of a functional laminate that serves to the overall quality and construction of the ski. In addition, we’re getting carbon stringers that run vertically along the ski, making for a stiffer overall feel without adding weight. In the 182, we’re hitting 1850 grams on the scale, with the big 190 barely finding the 2000-gram mark. For such a big ski, that’s not a whole lot of weight.

To continue to shape and profile, for such a wide ski, it doesn’t have a ton of rocker or taper. Rather, it’s more appropriate for that directional character that the build speaks to as well. These build techniques line up well for this ski, making it fast, clean, and smooth in any type of snow condition or terrain. We’re seeing a relatively long turn radius in the 182, arcing out at 21-meters, with the big ski hitting 23 meters. This allows for aggressive skiing and more fall-line oriented choices when you’re at the top of the hill. With a flatter and squared-off tail, the ski’s ability to cut through crud and chop is exemplary. This shape allows for a smoother overall character in manky and tough snow.

While it’s an athlete-inspired ski, this does not mean the Scott Pure Pro 109 is only accessible for pro skiers. Instead, the lighter weight of the ski opens up a lot of opportunities for regular skiers who are looking for a wider option in their quiver. This will make a great snow day ski for a whole lot of skiers, and while it’s a bit wide for daily driving applications, the energy that you can generate on non-powder surfaces is more than impressive.
