2024 VOLKL REVOLT 121 SKIS
With a new graphic but the same ungodly shape, the super-wide 2024 Volkl Revolt 121 is an incredibly floaty ski that will satisfy the needs of the most demanding big-mountain freeriders. This ski is built and shaped to be used in the deepest snows on the planet, from bottomless spring and packed snow to deep and fresh blower powder. This ski has been around for a few years now and has become a favorite of pro skiers who find themselves out in the middle of nowhere with nothing but a blank snow canvas below their feet. Best suited to snow cat, heli, and snowmobile approaches, this ski doesn’t have a huge touring application—it definitely takes some non-human power to lug this ski to the top. When you get there, though, you’ll be rewarded with some of the most dramatic and amazing powder performance ever.

Built with a Multilayer wood core consisting of poplar and beech, the Revolt 121 has a pretty thick profile overall, and that leads to a large amount of mass. In the shortest 177 cm length, the skis hit the scale at 2220 grams, so in the 191, that’s going to be quite a lot of weight underfoot. Thankfully, the shape and profile add to the agility of this behemoth, but for the most part the construction is fairly simple. It’s a full sidewall underfoot and that extends thickly to the ends of the ski where a Mini Cap build takes over from there in order to provide the slightest bit of flex and compliance. This ski also features a thicker and stiffer base in order to provide more stiffness and durability, and that’s a welcome addition to an otherwise simple build.

When we look at the profile of this ski, it really starts to make sense as to its application. It’s very one-dimensional, but in that dimension, there’s not a whole lot like it out there in the industry. There’s a ton of tip rocker, tip splay, and early taper, and all of those things add up to mega flotation. We do see camber underfoot, and that’s a great way to get the ski to hold tight if the snow conditions or terrain enter the technical side of the spectrum. But in the tail, we get right back to the task at hand. There’s just a whole lot of bend back there, and it makes a lot of sense when you consider the narrow application of the 121. It does feature Volkl’s 3D Radius Sidecut, but in a very slender manner. The ski basically produces a 19-meter turn radius in the 184, and that’s on the slightly turny side for a ski this wide. The long taper here is the culprit, bringing the widest parts of the ski closer to the feet and thus closing off the ends of the ski that results in the longer effective edge and turn shape.
If you’re looking for a powder ski to end all discussions, look no further than the 2024 Volkl Revolt 121. This is likely the last fat ski you’ll ever need—we're not quite sure where they’ll go from this. It’s hard to imagine a world in which there will be a much wider, much more effective ski when it comes to deep and bottomless snow, but we’ve been wrong before. If you’re in the market for the widest, most bowed-out freeride ski on the planet, the Volkl Revolt 121 is one of the best in a very small group.
