True all-mountain versatility is hard to find, but not if you’re Fischer. They’ve done a fantastic job with the Ranger 99 Ti women’s skis this year. Built with a wood core, a partial metal laminate, and a carbon addition, the Ranger 99 Ti loves to be pushed all over the mountain. Since it’s a high-end all-mountain ski with tons of versatility, you might expect it to be a slouch in one area or another, but that couldn’t be further from the truth. The wider waist is great for floating through the fresh, and that flotation is bolstered by the ski’s carbon nose and relatively low tip splay. With the low rise in the tips, the skis plane up and over the deeper snow with more playfulness and maneuverability than a high-rise tip. It may look a little strange at first, but the long tip rocker profile makes it all make sense. With the layer of carbon starting at the forebody of the ski and extending fully into the tips, the skis are light and easy to maneuver, lending to that spectacular soft-snow performance. This also makes it easier to get from edge to edge in a carving format, with the swing weight kept to a minimum. With the metal underfoot from the forebody and going edge to edge, you get so much edge grip and precision for this wide of a ski, that it’s very impressive to say the least.
