The Fischer Ranger 96 is a versatile all-mountain ski built to handle just about anything the mountain throws at it. A poplar and beech wood core, a shaped titanal layer, and a freeride rocker profile come together in a mid-nineties waist with a medium turn radius. The payoff is a stable, easy-to-control ski that floats through soft snow, holds steady in chop, and still feels composed when the trail firms up.
Why we like it:
Shaped Ti is our favorite part of the Ranger build; Fischer matches the thickness and outline of the titanal to the ski's shape, so you get grip and stability without the heavy, demanding feel of a full metal sheet. We also like the Flex Cut at the binding area, which smooths out the flex and makes the ski easier to bend into a turn.
Who it's for:
Intermediate and advanced skiers looking for one ski that handles the whole mountain, from groomers in the morning to soft snow and tree runs in the afternoon. It's a great choice for skiers who want to ski more terrain with confidence and don't want to switch skis when conditions change.
Highlights:
Fischer's Shaped Ti 0.5 layer matches the titanal to the geometry of the ski instead of using a uniform sheet, which delivers edge grip and a smooth ride without making the Ranger 96 feel stiff or heavy. Underneath, a beech and poplar woodcore with sandwich sidewall construction provides stable, consistent power transfer to the edge. The Flex Cut at the binding area tunes the flex so the ski bends more naturally underfoot, and the Freeski Rocker lifts the tip and tail for easier turn initiation, better float, and a looser feel in soft snow. With a 128/96/119mm shape, it has enough surface area for powder days while staying quick on edge, and a 17m sidecut measured at 173cm lands right in the middle for medium-sized turns. A sintered base rounds it out with good wax retention and long-term durability.
Things to consider:
The Ranger 96 is tuned for versatility rather than outright speed, so skiers who want the most damping and edge hold on hard, fast groomers may find it a bit lively. The Ranger 102 is the wider option for skiers who spend more time in soft snow.
Fit & sizing considerations:
Standard sizing applies to the Ranger 96. Bump up a length if you're a heavier or more aggressive skier who wants more stability at speed, or drop a length if you prefer quicker turns in trees and tight terrain.
