2024 Blizzard Firebird HRC Skis w/ XCELL 14 Bindings

2024 BLIZZARD FIREBIRD HRC SKIS W/ XCELL 14 BINDINGS

$1199.95

The 2024 Blizzard Firebird HRC is an awesome example of a high-powered race-like ski that is able to carve about as good as anything out there. We get a bit of a new shape with the HRC for this year, tightening up the dimensions to make it narrower and more precise. As skis like this get narrower, they also get more edge grip and torsional stiffness. This creates a more powerful feel from tip to tail. While it comes at the cost of friendliness and accessibility, that’s not really the point of this ski. It’s built and shaped to be aggressive and fast and about as race-like as possible. Blizzard has a strong race room to fall back on when it comes to ski construction, so these Firebird and Thunderbird models have strong influence in terms of heritage.

The HRC is built with the Firebird TrueBlend wood core that is built for serious speed and performance. While other skis in the line rely on a more sophisticated blend of different woods in the core, the Firebird falls more to the blunt side of the spectrum. They use a blend of ash and poplar, with the thick and dense ash taking up a lot of room in the ski. The central strip is poplar, giving the ski a bit of finesse, but that stringer is sidelined by two vertical strips of carbon in their C-Spine construction. By pairing this with another laminate of carbon in the C-Armor layer, the HRC gets a lot of power and strength by all components—wood, metal, carbon, and fiberglass. The end result is a strong and sturdy ski that is unflappable at speed and totally amazing when it comes to carving clean and round turns.

The new shape of the HRC is narrower overall, while keeping the same rough turn shape that we’ve had in the past. The new dimensions of the ski, 121-69-102 in the 175 hit about 15 meters in the arc, putting a big emphasis on carving clean and round turns across the fall line. This shape makes the ski a great recreational racer in addition to being a wonderful early-morning carving ski. If you have the room to let it run, please do, because it’s one of the most stable skis out there. With a full camber profile, the edge runs long and smooth, with a full running length that puts the ski in contact with the snow for a long period of time resulting in total confidence and stability. Also new for this year, we get a burlier plate for the Xcell 14 binding. While the older plate wasn’t bad, this is surely an upgrade.

Perfect for advanced and expert skiers as well as current and former racers, the Blizzard Firebird HRC is a high-octane performer that loves to be pushed to the limits. There’s not much of a low end with this one, it operates quite a bit better when brought up to speed. As a result, there’s not much room for skiers who are less than amazing, but on the feet of the right skier, this is an ideal tool for the job at hand, just so long as that job is top speeds and high edge angles.
