These are the fun ones! With a great re-design in store, the Blizzard Spur is available in sizes 159 through 189, breaking on the 10’s. This allows for a whole new generation of powder skiers to experience the flotation, smeariness, surfiness, and playfulness of some of the widest skis on the planet. At 127 mm underfoot, you’re getting some serious surface area to play off of, and skiers who are located in deep-snow areas will be pretty darn stoked to get on these in the appropriate day. They’re certainly more one-sided in terms of their application—not a whole lot of versatility built in to these, unless you think there’s a big difference between a two-foot snowstorm and a three-foot one. In that case, yes, they’re versatile, but I wouldn’t really want these things on my feet unless there was fresh snow to deal with. Built with a wood core consisting of beech, poplar, paulownia, and balsa, the Spur also has bi-directional carbon in the tips and tails, a titanal laminate, and a ti binding reinforcement to really lock you in when the conditions and terrain gets gnarly. Also, Blizzard adds a rubber damping layer that really does a nice job at reducing unwanted vibrations. Width-appropriate taper and rocker are standard fare with a ski like this, allowing you to really take advantage of the fully-maneuverable skis in the soft snow.
