Elan built off the success of the Ripstick line to create their Black Edition series for the most demanding of skiers, and the Ripstick 94 W Black Edition perfectly exemplifies what they were going for. Two additional Carbon Rods have been added to the ski, and a carbon plate underfoot works in tandem with those added Rods to boost the stiffness, power, and stability of the ski. Called QuadRod and C-Ply respectively, these two technologies open up the Ripstick line to women who prefer the stiffer flex and responsiveness of a ski with metal, but don’t want to pay the weight penalty that metal brings.
Things to consider:
Compared to the Ripstick 94 W, the Black Edition requires more skier input to get the most performance out of the ski; in other words, you have to be strong enough to bend all that Carbon in order to access the energy that makes this ski so fun. Advancing intermediates would do better on something a little softer like the regular 94 W.
