What's your first impression of this ski? How did it feel?

Damp, all of the Arcades and freeride Rossignols are just so quiet on-snow.

For what type of terrain would you recommend this ski? Why does it perform well in that terrain?

Hard snow, groomers, bumps, skied out trees. Torsinally stiff, stiff enough to hold an edge on groomers, but not so demanding that it is hard to ski in bumps, or quite as steerable than the Mantra 84 or Stance Pro 82 but close.

What's the appropriate ability level and/or style for this ski? Why is it appropriate for that type of skier?

Parallel skier through finesse based expert. I feel that heavier, aggressive, people might not like this. Just lacks the top end of the Mantra or Anomaly but has the quietest snow feel.

Anything else you want to tell us about your experience on these skis?

I always like Rossignol's feel. In my opinion, the more tapered Stance 82 and Mantra 84 are the better all arounders in low 80s, narrow, all mountain skis. I still think this could be someone's favorite.

What's your first impression of this ski? How did it feel?

This is a solid all mountain ski. It’s not ultra quick nor is it on the stiff side.

For what type of terrain would you recommend this ski? Why does it perform well in that terrain?

Frontside.

What's the appropriate ability level and/or style for this ski? Why is it appropriate for that type of skier?

This ski would be good for an intermediate skier looking to ski better and to grow with a ski.

Anything else you want to tell us about your experience on these skis?

This is a good middle of the road ski. It’s not extreme in any attribute but middle of the road in all facets. It’s the kind of ski that one can grow with.

I skied this on piste at Stowe Mountain Resort on a combination of Perry Merrill, Gondolier, and some woods in between. The snow was machine groomed frozen granular and firm hardback with a half inch of fresh snow on top.

Did this length feel short, long, or just right? Would you recommend sizing up or down, or does it ski "true to size?" Would you choose this length for yourself?

This ski felt a little long, but I don't think I'd size down.

What's your first impression of this ski? How did it feel?

This ski was a surprise for me. I did not think I would like it but I did. It has great all mountain potential, and decent performance on piste.

For what type of terrain would you recommend this ski? Why does it perform well in that terrain?

This ski is a good contender for an all mountain ski with almost nothing on the hill off limits. I think it angles a bit more towards the bumps and crud, but it holds a nice edge on piste. If you want more edge grip on piste though I'd STRONGLY consider the Arcade 88 which has the full sheet of metal (according to the Rossi rep) which I also tried and liked marginally better.

What's the appropriate ability level and/or style for this ski? Why is it appropriate for that type of skier?

This is an intermediate ski but it can be used by advanced skiers as well with the knowledge they'll likely over power it on piste.

Anything else you want to tell us about your experience on these skis?

This was a surprise to me. I was expecting a run of the mill mid 80 all mountain ski to sort of slosh around as usual for this category, but I was surprised by how well built this ski was and how well it did on piste and off. In the end I would much rather personally end up on an Arcade 88 than the 84 just to get the full sheet of metal and the improved edge grip, but it's cool that Rossi is putting these two skis so close to each other to give people a real choice in shades of gray. If you're shopping for these you should really be sure to try both the 84 and 88 since they are different enough to justify trying them both.

Felt short; Rossignol always seem to mount their skis closer to the actual middle of the ski. Consider sizing up for experts or hard chargers.

Quickness:5/10

Playfulness:6/10

Forgiveness:7/10

Edge Grip:7/10

Versatility:7/10

Overall:6/10

Overall Impression

Felt a little short but most Rossignol skis do. I like how the overall design (and feel) of the ski is harking back to the OG Rossignol Experience 84/88.

Appropriate Terrain

Frontside focused all mountain ski. I didn't feel like it did anything particularly well, but didn't do anything badly either. Ski design lends itself to more groomed snow, it felt like it wanted to hook up and carve more in choppy snow when you'd rather it butter a little.

Appropriate Skier

Intermediate/advanced that likes to cruise the whole mountain.

Other Thoughts

Make it ski true to length by changing ski design and mounting location without making the ski longer. Move the narrow point of the ski, and the binding, back a little so there's more tip and less tail.

Overall Impression

The ski likes medium radius turns. On the packed spring surface it provided a rough ride. It handled the softer surfaces much better. Good edge grip. Not as quick as other Rossignols I have tested.

Appropriate Terrain

Good question! Soft surfaces. Or smooth surfaces. May be good on firmer smooth surfaces thanks to those edges.

Appropriate Skier

Intermediate. Too rough a ride for an expert.

Other Thoughts

More damping, maybe some tip rocker.

Overall Impression

Very turny! Classic lines, long effective edge, and eager to be up and in a carve. Great energy and pop out of the turn, and that's what you're going to get out of a standard camber ski with a wood core. No bells and whistles, just a strong, basic ski.

Appropriate Terrain

This is far better on groomers than anywhere else. If you really wanted to take it in the bumps, it's fine, but the camber and more flared tails makes it a bit rugged. There are better 84's for moguls.

Appropriate Skier

Skiers who are looking for the ski to do most of the work will settle in nicely with the Arcade 84. You don't have to be an expert, but experts will still find a lot of fun here. Intermediates looking to improve their carving will be the big winners.

Other Thoughts

I'd like a little more taper and rocker as long as you could keep the energy the same.

Overall Impression

I didn't think a ski like this would be coming out this year. It checks all the boxes for me and I can't stop wanting a pair. The short radius and endless edge grip make these some of the most fun you can have on groomers and hardpack. The build is also pretty lightweight considering how stiff they are so they jump around and feel pretty good in rough terrain as well.

Appropriate Terrain

absolutely a groomer ski through and through.

Appropriate Skier

I think a lighter skier in the advanced or expert category could get the most out of this ski with how lightweight the build is.

Other Thoughts

I don't think there is anything I would change, only that I don't own a pair yet.
