Returning for 2025, the legendary Salomon QST Blank with Tyrolia Attack 14 GW Bindings continues to be the standout freeride powder ski that skiers have come to adore. With its generous tip and tail rocker, strong yet playful flex pattern, and a design tailored for soft snow turns, the Blank embodies the dream of any freerider. Whether you're dropping pillows, conquering massive cliffs, or tackling the steepest faces, the QST Blank will have you confidently seeking out more. We paired the Blank with the Tyrolia Attack 14 GW because of the Attack’s light weight, reliability, and ease-of-use for all mountain and freeride skiers. Additionally, ample elastic travel and direct power transmission function to ensure these bindings cater perfectly to the needs of demanding freeriders.
Why we like it:
The QST Blank is an award-winning powder ski, and its accolades are well-deserved. Its effortless floatation and intuitive maneuverability in deep snow make it a joy to ride. Additionally, its stability and confidence-inspiring performance at high speeds on big mountain faces further solidify its reputation.
Who it's for:
Advanced to expert freeride powder skiers with ambitious lines and objectives will find the QST Blank ideal. It excels in quick turns and stability through chop, making it as well suited to resort back bowls as it is to Alaskan spines.
Highlights:
The QST Blank features a full poplar woodcore with a substantial core profile, delivering maximum energy and pop while maintaining stability and power, but without being overly stiff. This is particularly useful for navigating technical in-runs to big drops with high-speed runouts. A full-length C/FX laminate, incorporating carbon and flax, adds energy and dampens vibrations, providing a smooth, springy feel through deep snow. Cork Damplifiers in the tips and tails enhance vibration damping during high-speed descents through variable conditions. Double Sidewall Technology underfoot ensures immediate power transfer and stability for a planted and confidence-inspiring ride. The Attack 14 GW’s FR PRO3 Toe contains 30 mm of elastic travel which provides a smooth and confidence inspiring feel when tracking though variable snow while also recentering the boot to its neutral position extremely well to keep you locked in, acting almost like a suspension system. NX FR Heel pieces have 16 mm of elastic travel which assists in prevent false-releases. These heel pieces also make stepping into and out of bindings with ease, even in deep snow.
Things to consider:
The Blank's playful nature and limited early taper make it highly responsive and turny in deep snow, which may pull you into a turn. For those preferring a more direct approach to big mountain powder skiing, the QST X, with its straighter sidecut, might be a better fit.
Fit & sizing considerations:
These skis are true to size. For maximum high-speed stability, consider sizing up, while sizing down will provide increased agility and control.
