This ski felt approachable.

For what type of terrain would you recommend this ski? Why does it perform well in that terrain?

I’d recommend the ski on softer, groomed terrain. The solid wood core without metal or carbon offers some edge grip and rigidity without requiring too much power to drive the ski.

What's the appropriate ability level and/or style for this ski? Why is it appropriate for that type of skier?

Intermediate to advanced skiers will be best suited for this ski. It wants to turn and move down the hill, but isn’t too demanding to drive across the fall line.

This is the best and longest length available. I suppose I'd be interested in seeing what a 185 or something like that could do but the 179 is plenty of fun.

What's your first impression of this ski? How did it feel?

The Sato is one of the most intuitive skis I've ever been on. It just turns so cleanly and so properly with such minimal input. Even in the 179, the longest length, this ski has a lot of stability to go along with great energy. It just makes me feel like I'm a better skier.

For what type of terrain would you recommend this ski? Why does it perform well in that terrain?

At 88 mm underfoot, the Sato is an all-mountain ski with a bit of a groomer lean. It's got some tail rocker but is primarily a directional groomer ski that can also be used in a versatile format as long as the snow is somewhat packed.

What's the appropriate ability level and/or style for this ski? Why is it appropriate for that type of skier?

Sato has a big range here in terms of ability. You don't have to be a highly skilled or aggressive skier to have an absolute blast on this ski. It's easy to turn but is also amenable to being pushed pretty hard if needed.

Anything else you want to tell us about your experience on these skis?

If there's a more comfortable ski out there in the world, I'm not sure what it is.

Definitely don't size down. Ski it in your usual size or maybe up one, depending on where the size breaks fall. I would probably ski it in the 175

What's your first impression of this ski? How did it feel?

This is meant to be a bit of a price point ski from Black Crows I think. It skis that way. Kinda loose, but in a fun way. Definitely not a powerful ski but really easy to get around the mountain on.

For what type of terrain would you recommend this ski? Why does it perform well in that terrain?

Groomers and some skied out woods would be it's main home. It would be ok in new snow but once things get tracked out you'll probably want something a little stiffer.

What's the appropriate ability level and/or style for this ski? Why is it appropriate for that type of skier?

Beginner through upper intermediate. Experts maybe depending on their ski style.

If you could change anything about these skis, what would you change and why?

Nothing really. I think it does what it set out to do. It's an accessible ski at a slightly lower price point than the rest of the line.

What's your first impression of this ski? How did it feel?

This ski was very playful in short turns, and had good flex/snap back. It held up well at higher speeds on frozen groomed conditions. Quick, side to side carves were super fun!

For what type of terrain would you recommend this ski? Why does it perform well in that terrain?

At 88 underfoot, these were very carve-able, I would recommend these for carving mid-length turns on groomed trails, as well as shorter turns on ungroomed.

What's the appropriate ability level and/or style for this ski? Why is it appropriate for that type of skier?

Anyone intermediate to expert would enjoy this ski. Especially good on hardpack/icy conditions. More playful and forgiving than a true race ski, it seems to perform well at both short and large radius turns.

If you could change anything about these skis, what would you change and why?

The snow conditions were very firm and did not allow me to try terrain other than groomers.

Initial impression was that they felt playful and fast, the playfulness dissipated a bit.

For what type of terrain would you recommend this ski? Why does it perform well in that terrain?

Definitely firm snow/ice etc… big turns are dialed in. The shorter more playful moguls/sharp quick turns felt less stable, it felt very dialed in on the bigger sweeping turns.

What's the appropriate ability level and/or style for this ski? Why is it appropriate for that type of skier?

Intermediate/Advanced ski. It requires a bit of “skiing the ski” and it isn’t as forgiving as some skis when you are taking snappier turns.

If you could change anything about these skis, what would you change and why?

For more style some more snappy/playfulness. Was told it was a ski to “do it all”, which it felt like it was more for groomer/icey laps.
