DESCRIPTION

Skiers who want one boot for both lift-served freeride and skinning up for it will find a lot to like in the Lange Code 130 LV GW BOA. Lange pairs a BOA-closed lower shell with two upper buckles and a real walk mode, all on a low-volume fit and a stiff, expert-level flex. It skis like a proper downhill boot on the way down and moves freely enough to make the climb up pleasant.

Why we like it:

The Active Blade spoiler is clever. It locks the cuff for a stiff, fixed feel when skiing, and an elastomer insert keeps the flex progressive when you're walking. The lower BOA dial also makes it easy to loosen things at the trailhead without fumbling buckles in gloves.

Who it's for:

Advanced and expert skiers who split time between hard-charging inbounds laps and backcountry or sidecountry tours. It best fits a narrow to average foot with a lower instep, the kind of skier who swims in medium-volume shells and wants a close, connected fit.

Highlights:

The Friction Free Hinge sets the Code apart from a standard alpine boot. It frees the cuff to pivot with very little resistance, giving the stride a natural range of motion on skin tracks and bootpacks. The shell uses Lange's Dual Core Technology, which injects two plastics: a harder one for the heel, spine and lower shell, and a softer one wrapping the foot and lower leg for smooth flex. The cuff is Lyftran PP. A BOA Fit System replaces the lower buckles and tightens the forefoot evenly in fine increments, and two micro aluminum buckles plus a 50mm cam-lock power strap close the cuff. Inside is the Core Custom 1 liner, with three high-density foams in key fit zones and a Reactive Boost Tongue, and it's thermo-moldable. GripWalk soles come stock with Dynafit-compatible tech inserts, and alpine DIN soles are sold separately.

Things to consider:

With a 97mm last and LV volume, this is a snug boot that won't suit wide or high-volume feet without serious shell work. The 130 flex is stiff, so lighter or less aggressive skiers may struggle to flex it. To use the tech inserts on the uphill, you'll need a pin or hybrid touring binding.

Fit & sizing considerations:

Lange lists a 97mm last, and the LV designation means a low-volume fit through the instep and heel. Because it's a stiff, close-fitting performance boot, have a certified bootfitter set you up, especially with a heat-molding session for the liner.
