Salomon's Strive 14 GW is the freeride-grade all-mountain binding most advanced skiers should be looking at, full stop. The wide pedal toe, three-part metal heel, and 5-14 DIN range deliver the power transmission and hold needed for aggressive skiing across the full mountain, while GripWalk compatibility opens the door to any modern alpine or hybrid boot with the right sole. It's a binding that does the work without complaint and pairs cleanly with the kind of all-mountain or freeride ski most advanced skiers are riding.

Why we like it:

The LDN toe is genuinely a different feel than traditional all-mountain bindings. The lower center of gravity and wider pedal make the binding feel locked to the ski rather than perched on top of it, and the difference shows up most in choppy snow and in landings where lateral stability matters. Pair that with a three-part metal heel that holds tight through repeated hard turns and you've got a binding with no real weak spot.

Who it's for:

Advanced and expert skiers riding all-mountain or freeride skis who want real performance from their bindings. The 5-14 DIN range covers most adult skiers in this category, and the wide pedal architecture is especially noticeable for skiers who push hard through variable conditions.

Highlights:

The Strive 14 GW shares its core architecture with the higher Strive 16 MN and 14 MN bindings: an LDN (Low Driving Neutral) toe piece with an extra-wide pedal that drops the boot lower to the ski and spreads lateral input across a bigger contact patch. The three-part metal heel resists deformation and holds tight through hard, repeated turns. Where this version differs from the MN variant is in the certification: GripWalk plus ISO 5355 alpine sole compatibility, with TÜV approval. That makes it the right fit for modern boots without the MN's multinorm flexibility for touring soles. The 30mm BSL adjustment range gives shops mounting flexibility, the 19.6mm stack height keeps the ride feel low and direct, and the brake widths run D90, D100, and D115 to handle most all-mountain and freeride skis. Total weight per binding lands at 980 grams.

Things to consider:

GripWalk and alpine soles only on this binding. If you're running touring soles or anything else outside the ISO 5355 and GripWalk standards, you'll want the MN version of this binding instead. The 115mm brake max also caps the practical ski width.

Fit & sizing considerations:

Match the brake to your ski's waist plus a few millimeters of clearance: D90 for skis up to the high-eighties, D100 for skis around the 90-100mm range, D115 for freeride skis past 100mm. DIN settings should be calculated and set by a certified shop technician.
