DESCRIPTION

The 2027 Volkl M7 Mantra with Demo bindings is the flagship of Volkl's all-mountain freeride line, a wide-bodied ski that carves far better than its waist width suggests. A poplar and beech wood core, a full sheet of titanal beneath a three-piece metal frame, and tailored carbon tips load it with energy and edge grip for skiers who like to push the pace. Demo bindings are the adaptable part of this package, built to take a wide range of boot sizes.

Why we like it:

That three-piece Tailored Titanal Frame is doing real work. The ski stores and returns a serious amount of rebound when you load it through a turn, and the tailored carbon tips cut swing weight enough that something with this much mass comes around quicker than you'd expect.

Who it's for:

Advanced and expert skiers who drive a ski hard and mix on and off-trail terrain at speed. There's an entry point to the M7, and it rewards strong technique and confident input rather than a relaxed, cruising style.

Highlights:

The shape is the big story, and the 4 Radius Drive is why: adding a longer second radius through the mid-body smooths out the jittery feel some skiers found in the previous generation and unlocks composed performance at shallower edge angles. A long, low rocker gives you access to all four radii, so the M7 can lay down a race-like carve or slide and release whenever you ask it to. Volkl builds it around a multi-layer poplar and beech wood core, placing beech toward the edges for power and smoothness while central poplar handles flex and soft-snow articulation, and a full layer of titanal below the core with the three-piece frame above supplies grip and energy while still letting the ski flex properly. The demo binding brings significant adjustability, spanning a large range of boot sole lengths.

Things to consider:

This isn't a ski for mellow or moderate skiers. The stiffness and the weight demand your attention, and it doesn't do as well in soft snow as the width and rocker might imply, because it's a carver at heart. If you're between sizes, coming down crisps up the carving feel at a slight cost to off-trail stability.

Fit & sizing considerations:

It sizes true to length, so stay with what you usually ride, or drop a length if you favor a quicker, more energetic carve over top-end stability.
