2024 BLIZZARD BRAHMA 82 SKIS

$649.95

As the narrowest of the Brahma series, the 2024 Blizzard Brahma 82 is certainly the most front-side oriented yet retains some all-mountain capabilities. While being better suited for on-piste carving, these beasts do not shy away from soft snow when the time comes. Returning unchanged for 2024, with the exception of a new graphic, the tried-and-true build is back for another season on the slopes. The Brahma 82 has been around for several years now and has paved the way for a multitude of other skis in this genre of skis. The concept of an extremely strong flat ski that sits between a front side ski with systems bindings and an all-mountain flat ski is something that we here at Ski Essentials enjoy because it makes for a highly versatile ski. Although not the strongest out there, the Brahma is surely on the stronger end of the spectrum in terms of stiffness. So, if you are looking for a strong ski that blurs the line between a frontside ski and an all-mountain ski, you have come to the right place.

There is a lot going on in terms of the Blizzard Brahma 88’s construction with a TrueBlend All Mountain Woodcore, Carbon FlipCore, and 2 and a half sheets of Titanal. The TrueBlend All Mountain Woodcore consists of a multi-stringer lay-up of Beech and Poplar. 7 stringers of Beech and 3 stringers of Poplar provide a flex that is tailors the flex of the ski both longitudinally and torsionally. What this translates to is suppleness in the extremities and strength underfoot. Carbon FlipCore technology helps with retaining the shape of the ski so that the natural shape of the ski does not resist the rocker in the tips. Two laminates of Titanal reinforce the core to dampen vibrations as well as provide torsional stiffness which leads to more edge grip on firm snow. There is another half sheet of Titanal underfoot for further stability and edge retention. These Titanal layers are extremely important for the Brahma 82’s frontside responsiveness as the skis can be pushed to the limit in terms of force and speed. Combined, the Brahma tips the scales at 3980 grams for a pair in the 180cm length. Although on the heavier side for a ski of this width, the weight actually helps to keep them planted into turns and smash through variable snow. All components of its construction work together to produce a smooth ride through and through.

The 2024 Blizzard Brahma 82’s shape works well with its construction to ensure a smooth and stable ride on or off trail. Starting with it’s profile, the 82 has tip rocker with mostly camber for the rest of the ski, with slight tail rise. The tip rocker is somewhat long for a ski in this genre, but it is low rise until closer to the tip where the splay increases more dramatically. Camber for the rest of the ski makes for maximum edge grip and energy for when carving down your favorite groomer. In terms of side, the Brahma 82 has a maximum forebody width of 121mm, a waist width of 82mm, and a tail width of 105mm which generates a turning radius of 16.5 meters at the 180cm length. Some very versatile dimensions here, which make it a great choice as an Eastern daily driver/one-ski-quiver or Western frontside ski with all-mountain capabilities.

If you are an advanced to expert skier searching for a more business-like all-mountain ski that can carve wild turns on groomers while also having strong off-trail capabilities, the Brahma 82 is a wonderful option. Like the Brahma 88, the 82 also has somewhat of a speed minimum which can make it difficult for less experienced skiers to get a hold of. However, for those skiers that want a powerful ski that is unwavering in the face of pure speed and carving performance, these skis are certainly ones that you will appreciate having strapped to your feet.
