2018 Fischer Ranger 108 Ti Skis

The Ranger 108 Ti from Fischer is a ski that’s designed to be both lightweight and powerful. It uses Fischer’s Carbon Nose and Air Tec Ti construction techniques resulting in an impressively light ski that retains similarly impressive torsional stiffness. The ski’s 108 mm waist width and Freeski Rocker Profile combine to give the ski float in soft snow and increased maneuverability. Tip rocker also should help smooth out turn initiation both on and off-piste. Fischer keeps camber under foot on the Ranger 108 Ti to retain some responsiveness and more of a traditional feel on firm snow compared to reverse camber or fully rockered skis. All of our testers on the Ranger 108 Ti were on the 188 cm length.

Mike Anglin thought “Jean Claude Van Dam would ski this ski.” What a great way to start your feedback, Mike! Mike scored it 5 out of 5 for flotation, stability, quickness, and versatility. He commented that “the Rangers live up to their name and do everything really well.” Mike described them as “light and playful,” but also admitted that it “has a mean side.” He found that the Ranger 108 Ti “eats up all snow and loves all different turn shapes. A true winner.”

Despite being so light, Bob St Pierre described the Ranger 108 Ti as “a very substantial ski.” Bob was impressed by the stiffness Fischer has achieved in the construction of the Ranger 108 Ti both in terms of longitudinal stiffness and torsional stiffness. Bob did mention that he thought it lacked a little bit of “rebound” when laying down carving turns on firm snow, but we’re alright with Fischer sacrificing a little bit of rebound energy considering how well the Ranger 108 Ti does in soft snow. Bob certainly agreed, commenting that the Ranger 108 Ti “will be excellent in fresh snow of all quantities and quantities.” In other words, it doesn’t matter how deep or how light the snow is, the Ranger 108 Ti will perform at a high level.

Kris DeMello was psyched with the Ranger 108 Ti! So much so that we’re guessing he’ll pick up a pair in the upcoming ski season. Kris commented, “Wow! A ski for me for sure. It did everything I wanted it to and more. A great surfer!” Kris gave the Ranger 108 Ti high scores across the board with flotation, stability, torsional stiffness, versatility, and overall impression all receiving 5 out of 5 scores.

Mike Thomas was another tester that really liked skiing the Fischer Ranger 108 Ti. In fact, none of our testers disliked it, and it was relatively rare in our test to have completely positive responses across the board. Uncommon, at least, as usually ski styles differed enough among the testers of a particular ski. Mike had some great feedback on the Ranger 108 Ti, so we’re going to give it to you in its entirety:

“The low profile shovel knifes over soft snow keeping tip “flap” to a minimum. The light feeling shovel adds quickness and a playful feel to an otherwise very “Austrian” ski. It’s going to be best for a technically solid skier who wants a grippy ski that can smear, but would rather carve.”

The Ranger 108 Ti from Fischer is bound to be a favorite among adventurous all mountain skiers that are always seeking out soft snow. It’s not really a true powder ski, but the 108 mm waist width definitely leans toward use in soft snow as opposed to firm groomers. Lightweight, easy to maneuver, but can hold a powerful edge… sounds good to us and it certainly seemed to work for our testers.
