The Temptation 84 HD from Rossignol is a versatile all mountain ski that utilizes a lightweight Paulownia wood core that’s strengthened by Rossignol’s innovative Carbon Alloy Matrix. This provides increased torsional stiffness and stability at a much reduced extra weight when compared to metal. Add in Rossignol’s Air Tip and Auto Turn Rocker profile and you’ve got a ski that has impressively low swing weight and what Rossignol refers to as the most versatile rocker profile in the broadest range of terrain and snow conditions.
Carly Monahan tested the 162 cm length first noticed the responsive nature and short turn radius of the Temptation 84 HD. A “short turn radius was the sweet spot, but I was impressed by how smooth and solid it felt when pushing longer GS turns.” Carly compared it to the 2015 version of the Temptation 84, which did not use Carbon Alloy Matrix. “I last skied a Temptation in 2015 and felt it did not ski longer turns nicely and would only make short turns.” Carly thought the Temptation 84 HD felt both “light and solid” and she found that it was “easy to get on edge and make variable turn shapes.” While it does have the ability to go off-piste from time to time, Carly thought it would make a “great ski for someone who wants to stick to frontside groomed trails.”
Karly with a K (Karly Acker) tested the 162 cm length and thought the Temptation 84 HD was easy to ski, fun, light, and great for intermediate and less aggressive skiers. “So smooth! Fun Ski. It felt really easy from light pow to groomers.” We think the ease-of-use is one of the highlights of the Temptation 84 HD. Karly thinks it would be “great for light weight intermediate women,” and we would tend to agree with that statement, it’s a great choice for intermediates, but advanced skiers can still enjoy the Temptation 84 HD.
Caroline Kessler was on the 170 cm ski and thought the Temptation 84 HD was “good while making small to medium radius turns at slower speeds.” The easy turn initiation really came through for Caroline as she commented that “not a lot of effort is needed for turning.” Caroline seemed to agree with Karly in terms of skier ability. She thought it would be best for a beginner or intermediate skier who skies at slow to medium speeds. This was mostly due to the fact that Caroline found them to be “not stable at high speeds.” Again, we think advanced skiers could enjoy the Temptation 84 HD, but it’s best for less aggressive skiers and moderate speeds.
Kristi Brown also skied the 170 cm length and commented that the Temptation 84 HD felt “super user-friendly.” Kristi thought it would be a great ski for someone looking to improve their ability. “The Temptation 84 HD instills confidence and enhances skier ability.” She found them to be “super versatile, adapting easily to terrain changes and different turn radii.” While Kristi admitted she was “new to the Rossi cat-walk,” she thought “the 84 HD is hands down a top model you don’t want to miss.”
We agree with our testers who point the ski towards intermediate skiers. As Kristi mentioned it’s definitely a confidence inspiring ski that will allow developing skiers to work on their technique without feeling overpowered by the ski, not supported when they want to go faster, etc. A great choice for the more groomer oriented all mountain skier!
