The Fischer Aerolite 70 is a fantastic ski that provides high-level skate performance at an affordable price. At just $299 with bindings, this ski is a fraction of the price of Fischer’s World Cup level skis, but still feels fast, responsive, and smooth. Fischer uses their Air Core Basalite Pro construction, which results in a nice lightweight feel, while still retaining a supportive, energetic flex pattern. These skis could be used by a recreational skier who wants to improve their skate skiing or just get outside to get some exercise, but their performance ceiling is high enough that even a developing racer could pick these up and save a significant amount of money without being at a huge disadvantage come race day.
That’s something Jeff Neagle had a lot to say about after his testing on the Aerolite 70. “These skis are really nice for a wide range of skiers, from racers to recreational skiers and everyone in between.” Jeff actually mentioned that in some ways, he preferred skiing the Aerolite 70 over stiffer, higher-end skis. “I think I prefer skiing these over the RCS+ level skis outside of a race scenario because they’re smoother and feel better at slower speeds.” Sometimes it’s nice to just get outside and go for a skate ski without worrying about how fast you’re going or whether you’re maximizing efficiency. For that application, these skis are perfect. Jeff’s fondness for the Aerolite 70 was reflected in his criteria scores, with not a single score dropping below 4 out of 5.

Jeff also commented on how he thought it would be a reasonable choice for a racer, even though they’re not necessarily marketed that way by Fischer. “Realistically, these offer plenty of performance for a young racer like a high school athlete. Someone just getting into the sport will have a tool that they can use to progress on without being at a significant disadvantage. Line up next to skiers on skis that cost 3 times as much as these, and you can still be relatively competitive, which I think is really cool. The technology has come a long way since my race days. I would’ve been thrilled with these back in the day and they’re far less expensive than what I was racing on then.”
Whether you’re more of a recreational skier or someone who’s racing, the Aerolite 70 from Fischer is a fantastic value. You get a lot of performance and a lot of technology all at the low price of $299. That’s a steal when you consider how expensive XC skis can be. So, don’t overlook them just because of their price. You can save a significant amount of money and you’re still going to have a really high performing ski.
