The Twin Skin Carbon from Fischer is a high-end, race-ready ski that utilizes the latest in skin technology. The twin skin application on these skis is shorter and wider, designed to provide a more consistent kick while maintaining really good glide. Fischer uses their Air Core Carbon construction, which results in a ski core that consists of 80% air. That gives it an incredibly lightweight feel, while carbon provides the stability and responsiveness necessary in a high-end classic race ski. The Turnamic binding system allows you to move the entire binding forward and back to customize the amount of kick or glide you want for different courses, different conditions, etc.
Sam Purnell loved her testing on the Twin Skin Carbon. She scored it 5 out of 5 for stability, maneuverability, glide, weight, and overall impression. Those are impressive scores, rivaling scores we saw on the Twin Skin Speedmax, the only ski above the Twin Skin Carbon in Fischer’s lineup. “Loving the twin skin skis! Waxless skis are the way to go with constantly changing conditions here in Vermont. Light, good flex, worked great on icy terrain. Great control.” Shelby Parenteau also had an opportunity to test the Twin Skin Carbon and immediately found “great glide to these classic skis!” Shelby also found they “felt significantly faster than the lower end models. Grip was good on these skis as well.”

Jeff Neagle thought the Twin Skin Carbon would be an ideal choice for a racer looking to take their skiing to the next level. Jeff scored these skis 5 out of 5 for speed, glide, weight, and overall impression. “I really like the feel of these skis. They’re slightly easier to ski than the Twin Skin Speedmax, and I think that’s a valuable characteristic for a lot of skiers. You’re really not losing much speed or overall performance going with these, but you’re gaining some forgiveness and a bigger overall sweet spot. On the Speedmax I felt like I had to be really precise. You still have to have good technique on the Carbon, but it won’t beat you up as much if you’re not spot on with your weighting. I think that makes it a really good choice for an upper-level high school or even a good college athlete.” That’s good feedback from Jeff, and we agree. The Carbon is a high-end race ski that will satisfy the demands of really, really good Nordic skiers.
Fischer’s Twin Skin skis are awesome, and this Carbon version is a fantastic ski. You don’t necessarily have to be racing to enjoy it, either. If you love putting in the kilometers at your local touring center and you’re focused on fitness and efficiency, you’ll love these skis. They’re still likely a little too much for a real recreational skier. Even though they’re more forgiving than the Speedmax, they still require really good technique and an active, athletic skiing style.
