If you’re looking for the same level of performance as you see on the World Cup circuit, look no further. The Twin Skin Speedmax from Fischer is their top-of-the-line race classic ski and is designed to help shave seconds off your race times and help you earn those podium placements. Many skiers consider these skin skis to be the future of classic racing. It takes the guess work and testing out of waxing, which gives you way more time on race day to focus on getting your body ready. Not to mention, the glide is really good, there’s no chance of ice or snow buildup, and it’s consistent day after day. Fischer uses plenty of other technology in these skis too like their Air Core HM Carbon construction that boasts 80% air content for an extremely lightweight feel.

Sam Purnell scored the Twin Skin Speedmax 5 out of 5 for speed, stability, maneuverability, glide, versatility, and kick/grip. Those are incredibly impressive scores, although we suppose it’s not terribly surprising for a top-of-the-line ski. “Definitely for advanced skiers. Requires constant control and pressure through each kick and glide. Worked great on icy conditions. I would choose this ski for myself and I think it would make me a better skier. It makes sure you’re not slacking on any of your kicks.”

Jeff Neagle also got to test the Twin Skin Speedmax and had a similar response. 5 out of 5 scores for speed, stability, glide, and overall impression. “These twin skin skis are incredible. Back in my racing days, I would’ve absolutely loved to have a ski like this. They’re so fast and I love that you don’t have to worry about choosing wax. Waxing classic skis has to be the worst part of Nordic racing, and I certainly don’t miss it.” Jeff had a lot of thoughts about who these skis would be best for as well. “You have to be somewhat careful if you’re considering picking up these skis. They really are designed for accomplished skiers with good technique. If you’re not precise with your kick/glide technique and how you’re weighting the skis, you’ll struggle to find grip, especially on steeper uphills. Those that are comfortable on race classic skis and have good technique, however, will love how they feel. It’s a snappy, energetic ski that feels like it’s catapulting you forward when you get it right.”

All in all, the Twin Skin Speedmax skis are a fantastic choice for advanced and expert level classic skiers who want World Cup level performance. You don’t need to be actively racing to enjoy them, but you do need to have good technique and good fitness. If you’re just looking for a ski to casually shuffle around on, this isn’t it, but they’re incredibly fast for skiers who know how to use them.
