This is an interesting one, and it’s kind of pigeon-holed for skiers who know what they’re doing when it comes to waxing skis. The Rossignol Delta Sport classic skis come with a smooth base that’s ready to be waxed depending on conditions and skier type. This puts a lot more emphasis on the skier’s knowledge of wax and their commitment to daily maintenance. Some skiers out there wouldn’t ever wax their skis at all, if they could help it, while others can’t imagine not waxing their skis on a daily basis, because it offers a far more customized performance for the day’s conditions.

Built just like the Delta Sport classic’s cousin, these skis feature the race shape, but with a lower-end build that’s better suited for advancing skiers, high-school racers, or Nordic enthusiasts who just don’t want to spend top-dollar. It makes a lot of sense for those skiers, as it provides them with something to improve and race on, while honing their waxing skills. With a measurement of 44/44/44/40, these things are arrow-straight, and will allow skiers to stay in the track and on their intended line no matter what. This is a better shape for skiers who are looking for that race performance, as it can be a bit unnerving for recreational skiers who are looking to tour and cruise rather than blast through the groomed track in the Nordic center.

So, a lot of the qualities that are normally found in the Delta Sport classic are also found in the wax base, but the performance is just so different, due to the fact that there’s no grip built in, either in a skin or a fish scale format. The K7000 base holds it all together, and is ready to accept your waxing skills. Some skiers really enjoy the technology involved in waxing, from taking the temperature of the snow and perfecting your wax quiver to get the best performance. Kickers and gliders especially love the ability of the ski to bend to their whim, and for those hands-on skiers, the Delta Sport classic skis with the wax base are an awesome choice.

Looking back on our Delta Sport R-Skin comments, skiers loved the value provided in addition to the performance. These things hold true for these skis as well. In fact, many of the performance characteristics carry over, but when you get the wax base involved, it really changes the dynamic of the ski. You can’t just take it for granted when it comes to the performance, so please make sure you’re ready for the commitment of waxing the skis in order to generate the best possible combination of grip and glide.
