The Alight 8.2 Ca from Blizzard is one of those skis that blurs the lines between all-mountain and frontside carving. Is it a narrow all-mountain ski? Is it a wide carving ski? Honestly, it doesn't really matter. What matters is its fun-loving feel and well-rounded performance characteristics. Using Blizzard's Quattro build, the Alight 8.2 Ca is built for grip, but by using carbon, it's lighter, more maneuverable, and more energetic than most skis in this range, especially those that use metal. Carbon is an excellent material in a ski like this as it gives it such a fun, energetic feel when coming out of a turn. You'll feel like you're bouncing from one turn to the next thanks to the full ash and poplar wood core and the carbon additives. A little bit of rocker in the tip and tail is intended to help bring you into a turn more easily, while also helping keep the tips from catching when the snow surface gets softer and more variable later in the day.

Allison Ruschp skied the 162 cm length in the Alight 8.2 Ca, which she thought was the best choice for her size and ability level. 4 out of 5 scores for stability and playfulness from Alli, with quickness/maneuverability and forgiveness both earning 5 out of 5. "Excellent edge hold for this type of ski. Carbon keeps down the chatter. Easy to carve. Light and forgiving on the knees. Perfect for the intermediate ski that skis mostly on trail. Likes to make short radius turns, but can still handle larger arcing turns." The 162 cm length that Alli skied has a 13 m turn radius, which is going to result in mid-radius, round, responsive turns. It's nice to know that Alli felt she could let the ski run a little bit, but in general the Alight 8.2 Ca is going to prefer smaller turn shapes. Skiers looking for a similar ski, but a bigger turn radius, could consider the Black Pearl 78 or 82, which have similar characteristics with slightly longer turn radii.

We saw practically identical scored from Ariel Aidala after skiing the 162 cm length, although her scores did tick up a notch from Alli's. 5 out of 5 for stability, quickness/maneuverability, playfulness, and torsional stiffness/edge grip. Forgiveness, versatility, and overall impression were right behind with 4 out of 5. "This women's specific build from Blizzard rips. Really great stiffness and edge hold. Quick turns and handled bigger turns too. Perfect for groomer and on-piste conditions." Katrine Wolfgang also got on the 162 cm length and admitted that "this ski surprised me." That's a common theme with a ski like the Alight 8.2 Ca. You don't need metal in a ski like this to achieve high performance, which often surprises skiers that have spent a lot of time on heavier skis. 5 out of 5 scores for stability, quickness/maneuverability, and torsional stiffness/edge grip from Katrine. Every other criteria received 4 out of 5 scores, which is darn impressive for a ski that costs $599 with a binding. "Stable and fun. Impressive how good it held at speed without metal. Great price for an intermediate to advanced skier."

Blizzard did a great job packing a bunch of performance into the Alight 8.2 Ca while keeping the price tag relatively low. It's fun, it's agile, it hold well on groomers, and it has an energetic, snappy, responsive feel that a lot of skiers are really going to enjoy. As we mentioned, skiers looking for a similar ski with a longer turn radius should check out the narrow Black Pearl models, but based on the feedback from our testers, we think a lot of skiers will thoroughly enjoy the Alight 8.2 Ca.
