The Atomic Backland 107 W is an amazing choice for high-level lady skiers who spend most of their time searching out deep snow in both the resort and in the backcountry. If you’re looking for something that’s equally at home riding the lifts as it is in the skin track, this ski is the one you’ve been looking for. It’s got a very interesting and unique set of skills, allowing it to be one of the more versatile wide skis we’ve seen, and it has the energy and pop to back up its reputation. Feel free to put an alpine binding on this ski and use it as your downhill snow day ski, or load it up with a tech binding and never set foot in bounds. As both an alpine and a backcountry ski, the Atomic Backland 107 W is a fantastic choice with a light weight and a high-energy limit for a wide variety of skiing.

The construction of the ski makes it adept at a variety of things, and it all starts with Atomic’s Ultra-Light wood core. Thanks to the thinness of the wood and the amount of energy involved, the skis get a feather-light and energetic start. They then add their carbon backbone, and these stringers make a lot of difference in terms of the overall feel and character of the ski. They make it both torsionally and longitudinally stiffer, and this is great news for skiers who are looking for just a bit more material to push off of in the turn. It makes a big difference, and allows skiers to really get all the benefits of a high-end ski without the weight. Coming in at 1470 grams per ski in the 167, these things are very light both in your hands and on your feet, allowing for that totally versatile and comprehensive use in any conditions, terrain, or environment.

With a wider shovel that has Atomic’s HRZN Tech tips, these skis are some of the better floaters around, not just in their shape category, but overall. By shaping the shovel of the ski like a boat hull, Atomic is able to eke out every bit of surface area of the ski without adding width. This makes for a smoother and more direct turn shape, as well as increasing the playfulness in the front of the ski. There’s more taper in the tail, as the very ends are on the narrower side, and the widest point is set forward more, coming closer to the back of the binding. This makes the release from the turn very smooth and playful, and while the stiffness of the ski is still on the mid-range side, they are forgiving enough to smear and skid turns in the deep snow, making the whole experience just a lot more fun.

Skiers who are looking to make the most out of their time on the hill, whether it’s an uphill or downhill format, will get a big kick out of the 2022 Atomic Backland 107 W. They have the shape, construction, and profile to make them some of the lightest and most useful skis we’ve seen in this width, and they’re just an impressive set of skis for both touring and alpine skiing, or a mix. Whichever way you choose to use these skis, you’re sure to have an absolute blast on them.
