We're loving the Fischer RC One 78 GT skis for 2022, just as we have the past few seasons. These great skis just continue to impress. Built with a wood core and a titanal laminate, Fischer takes a little bit off at the ends and replaces it with Bafatex material. This woven fabric is more commonly found on high-performance sails, but the applications carries forward pretty well into the alpine ski world--go figure. It acts a lot more like fiberglass than fabric, and it allows the ski to be more playful and accessible in the tips and tails, while a full-metal laminate would make the ski on the clunky side.

At 78 mm underfoot, these skis are very agile and quick from edge to edge. This makes them an ideal choice for a groomer ski, but they're also pretty adept at off-trail stuff as well. Thanks to the slightly softer tips and tails, you can engage the ski easily and quickly without being overpowered, and at the back end, you can release the turn without being totally locked in and fighting for every inch of the ski to come around. In the 171 cm length, the skis generate a 15-meter turn radius, so that's on the shorter side, and if you're looking for amazing carving performance and a ski that leaves totally deep and round trenches in the snow, you've come to the right place with the RC One 78 GT.

With tip rocker to help get into the turn, the skis blend a little bit of the front side and the all-mountain. As a result of the shape of the ski, it's a lot more like a front side carver for sure, but with the extra width underfoot, we're looking at a bit of off-trail performance as well, and that's a good thing for skiers who are looking to spend most of their time on the trails and on a groomer, but who are also looking for a bit of adventure and off-piste fun. If you want a nice blend of those attributes, the Fischer RC One 78 GT is an amazing choice. The tip rocker, combined with the bafatex in the tips, does make for a ski that can plow through the crud and chop rather than float over it, and that's a good thing even late in the day when the groomers get cut up and manky. These skis still have the power to bust through and make more fun of what's in front of you.

There's a nice range of skiers who will benefit from these skis. Mainly, we're looking at intermediate through advanced skiers who value precision, carving, and front side performance, but the versatility of the ski stands out quite a bit more than just that. Thanks to Fischer's never-ending conquest to build the ideal front side ski, the Fischer RC One 78 GT is here to satisfy the needs and wants of a wide range of skier ability and type, in a variety of conditions and terrain.
