2025 Alpine Ski Binding Comparison Lead Image

2025 Alpine Ski Binding Comparison

NOVEMBER 6, 2024 | WRITTEN BY Bob St.Pierre

There’s a lot going on with bindings these days, especially if you look at them from afar. When you zoom in, though, the differences start to narrow the field considerably. In this binding comparison, we’re only dealing with Alpine bindings—no touring or hybrid bindings here, we’ll save those for another day. Most skiers, like 98%, will find a binding here in the alpine zone. The biggest part of finding the proper binding is determining your DIN zone. Once you are even reasonably aware of your DIN (release) setting, plotting that number in the middle of the binding’s range is a great place to start. With color coordinating, brand loyalty, and brake options bringing up the rest of the decision-making process, there are great options here, and it is not nearly as intimidating or complicated as it looks.

Additionally, the metal arms that support the heel have been beefed up and the hardware is more accommodating. With the advent of the Protector binding over these past few seasons, the move to a safer binding has taken control of the conversation. With a full heel release that goes fully sideways, the Protector is making skiing as safe as possible while keeping performance fully in mind. Backward twisting falls is the big emphasis here, as that’s an easy way to ruin a knee. Protector makes it all safer. The PR 11 shares the same toe piece as found on the non-Protector versions, offering a diagonal release as well as automatic adjustment.
