How to Choose a Complete Ski Package
We here at SkiEssentials.com believe in the true nature of value shopping. Whether it’s the convenience of getting all of your hardgoods at the same time or just offering a great price on a sweet setup, it’s all part of the plan to get you out there on the snow as fast and efficiently as possible. We’ve done brisk business with our ski packages over the years, and we continue to add options and practicality to the mix. For our package review here, we have a few different options laid out for you, covering a good range of pricing and application. There are narrow and easy-going skis on one end and some wider twin tip and freeride choices on the other. In the middle, we have some ripping on-trail skis that love to be on edge, instilling confidence in blossoming skiers. Whichever package you end up choosing, you will get skis, boots, bindings, and poles that all match the skill level of the ski, allowing you to spend less time in the rental line and more time on the hill.
Recreational Packages:
2024 Head Shape V2 and 2024 Head Easy Joy Packages

When you’re starting out in the sport of skiing, you want a few things to go in your favor. The first, and this is a big one, is ease of use. Whether it’s your first time or your first set of gear, the Head Shape V2 and the Head Easy Joy packages are right on the money when it comes to simplicity. The skis turn simply and the boots are comfortable and flexible. Both of these attributes will set you up for success on the slopes. Speaking of being on the money, the value here is fantastic. If you’re looking to spend in the mid-$500 range, this setup is awesome. Built with synthetic cores and capped construction, these skis are durable and tough—made to stand up to some serious use. Recreational Plus Packages:
2024 K2 Disruption 76 Men's and 2024 K2 Disruption 75 Women’s Packages

K2’s package options fit into the mid-70's when it comes to waist width, and this gives skiers a bit more of a platform to stand on when heading out to the hill. In the mid-$500 range, the Disruption 76 and 75 packages for men and women, respectively, have more of an all-mountain flair to them than the narrower package skis. When the snow gets a bit dicey, it’s nice to have some extra width underfoot, and we also get some sidewall in the middle of the ski to accentuate edge grip and add confidence. While these skis are still made with a composite core, that means the skis will hold up well over time and be light and agile for a wide variety of beginner and intermediate skiers who spend most of their time on groomers. There’s some nice tech filtering in here, with the I-Beam reinforcement adding stability—a nice thing to have at such a great price.

Performance Packages:
2024 Blizzard Brahma 82 SP Men’s and 2024 Black Pearl 82 SP Women’s Packages

If you’re looking for a bit more precision and on-trail power in your ski package, while also keeping the price to a minimum, it’s tough to look past the Brahma and Black Pearl 82’s. For under $700, you’re getting a lot of performance here, mainly thanks to the shaping pedigree of Blizzard’s 82’s. While the SP versions have less metal and a more easy-going personality, they still share the effective footprint that makes their beefier counterparts so popular. You’re getting fantastic edge grip and a full sidewall, so those technologies filter through to these models. At 82 mm underfoot, the skis are wide enough to handle adverse conditions and terrain while remaining narrow enough for good torsional stiffness and precision. Skiers progressing through the levels but who are still interested in value and simplicity will love the Brahma and Black Pearl 82 SP package options. For a quick, agile, and springy feel, these package skis are some of the best.

Wider Performance Packages:
2024 Volkl Blaze 86 Men's and Volkl Blaze 86 Women’s Packages

Bumping up in price and application, the Volkl Blaze 86 men’s and women’s packages bring an all-mountain and even narrow freeride flair into the mix. In the mid-80's the Blaze features a longer rocker profile, more dramatic taper in the tips and tails, and an upgraded construction that leads to higher performance in both on and off-trail settings. Built with Volkl’s hybrid multilayer wood core, you’re getting a light weight feel, but the suspension tips and tails provide a smooth and balanced ride when the snow gets choppy. These packages are ideal for skiers in the intermediate and advanced ranges who are progressing and adventurous and looking to branch out into the bumps, trees, and softer snow zones of the mountain. With the upgraded package, you’re also getting a slightly stiffer boot that adds to the precision and reaction of the ski’s overall performance. Fantastic flotation, awesome bump performance, and zippy groomer turns are all hallmarks of the Blaze 86 skis.

Twin Tip Packages:
2024 Atomic Bent 85 R and 2024 K2 Reckoner 92 Twin Tip Packages

If freestyle and creative skiing are part of your repertoire, then you should take a sharp look at the Atomic Bent 85 and K2 Reckoner 92 twin tip package options. Whether you’re looking to add the terrain park into your daily schedule or are just looking for a more playful ski to approach the mountain with, these are great choices. The Atomic is built with a densolite core, which is pretty darn sturdy and strong. When combined with the tip and tail protectors, this ski will outlast all of us on this planet. At 85 mm underfoot, it’s very accessible and grippy both on and off-trail. The K2 is the more flexible of the two, with a very friendly and bendy personality that exudes fun. It’s a bit wider, too, at 92 mm underfoot, and that makes it a great option for those that are looking to spend more time in softer snow, trees, and other adventurous zones. Park skiers who are looking to mix value and creative performance will definitely gravitate to these two twin tip package options.
