2027 Ski Test Behind the Scenes: 2027 Stockli Montero AR Pro Skis
The all-new 2027 Stockli Montero AR Pro is an eye-catching ski that somehow skis even better than it looks. It’s basically unfair to make a ski this strong and sharp-looking, but Stockli has never shied away from convention. In case the “normal” Montero AR wasn’t enough ski for you, we now get the AR Pro, with a Titec Pro topsheet, stiffer sidewalls, and a thicker base. These seemingly smaller updates really make a big difference on snow as the AR Pro lives up to its name and will certainly appeal to a stronger and more powerful group of all-mountain carving experts. Like all other Stockli skis, the Montero AR Pro features a smooth and silent character to go along with a poised and confident feel. Other than the construction changes, the ski shares a footprint with the Montero AR at 84 mm underfoot.
When we got them on snow, the differences in construction were shockingly distinct. The AR Pro, as opposed to other skis in the Stockli line, doesn’t really have the same lower end compliance. This ski likes to be brought up to speed in order to operate at full capacity. Stronger and more aggressive skiers will have more success on the AR Pro, especially if they have a race background and are interested in more of a race-like feel. The edge grip is miraculous, and the stiffness of the ski shows its preference for fast skiing. Whereas the normal AR feels like it can be used in more of an all-mountain format with increased versatility in turn shape, style, and terrain, the AR Pro has more of a “grit your teeth” vibe. There’s nothing really easy about this ski, and we think that’s a fair place to be, certainly for skiers who may feel that more horsepower was needed in the Montero line. We anticipate this ski to be in high demand moving into the 2027 season, and for good reason. This thing rips.
