DESCRIPTION

The 2027 Fischer Ranger 108 is an athlete inspired versatile, powerful, and energetic freeride ski that is an absolute blast in soft snow. With quite a sturdy build but playful and surfy shape, the Ranger 108 offers the best of both worlds for your freeriding adventures, stability on big impacts and high speeds with smeariness for deep snow agility. For those looking for a stable and composed ski in variable snow, with a smeary and surfy feel in soft snow, the Ranger 108 is one you would be hard pressed to overlook.

Why we like it:

Sturdy and direct build matched with a playful and drifty shape. This results in a ski that adapts to the snow conditions very well, whether it be chopped up variable snow or deep powder.

Who it's for:

Advanced to expert freeriders who seek a ski that they can depend on no matter what the conditions are in a freeride application.

Highlights:

The Ranger 108 has a sturdy flex pattern for stability and composure which is directly the result of its beech and poplar wood core. Shaped Ti 0.5 laminates underfoot function as a binding retention agent and vibration damping. Flex Cut is taken out of the Ti laminate at the mid section to allow for a more even flex pattern underfoot for added intuitiveness and predictability. Sandwich Sidewall Construction bolsters the overall stiffness of the ski by using a full sidewall around the entire ski while maximizing edge power. Freeski Rocker profile allows for quick turning and surfiness in deep snow.

Things to consider:

The Ranger 108 can be locked in and unforgiving with mistakes made in tighter, more technical terrain.

Fit & sizing considerations:

Skis true to size.

It's kind of a tank with great stability and the ability to just plow through whatever is in front of it, but it lacks the quickness of the 102 or the smeary feel of the 116. Really good for someone who skis fast and aggressively with a big mountain style.

Overall Impression
Ranger 108 is interesting to me. For me it's harder to ski than the 102 or 116. It's kind of a tank with great stability and the ability to just plow through whatever is in front of it, but it lacks the quickness of the 102 or the smeary feel of the 116. Really good for someone who skis fast and aggressively with a big mountain style. Not the best here in Vermont, at least not for me.
Appropriate Terrain
It's best in off-piste terrain and softer snow, and I think it's better when the terrain is relatively open so you can get it up to speed. At slower speeds and/or when trying to make quick movements, it can feel a bit sluggish, but it really comes alive the faster you go.
Appropriate Skier
Advanced to expert skiers for sure, or maybe even an expert-only ski. One variable would be skier weight. A heavier skier would benefit more from its feel than a lighter skier, even if they don't ski particularly fast.
Other Thoughts
I'm not sure what I'd change about it... I suppose I just wish it felt as quick as the 102.
