I think the 184 was a good length for me. I think with its light weight, going a lil longer wasn’t an issue and provided more stability.

What's your first impression of this ski? How did it feel?

It’s a light weight ski that’s not too demanding that has a nice playful feel but can still be pushed on groomed trails while feeling stable.

For what type of terrain would you recommend this ski? Why does it perform well in that terrain?

This ski would be best for powder skiing or on slushy loose snow. It’s a light ski that’s easy to manage and throw around but can get a little chattery at high speeds.

What's the appropriate ability level and/or style for this ski? Why is it appropriate for that type of skier?

This ski would be best suited for an Advanced skier who wants a fun, poppy, ski that isn’t too demanding. It’s easy to manage but with its soft playfulness it’s not the best for laying down hard strong carves.

It’s for sure a fun, playful, ski looking to jump around in the woods and powder.

This would be a good ski for all levels. Mainly beginner to intermediate.

Engaged and active, but not particularly aggressive. I like to find the flow of terrain+ski and let that lead me; I rarely find the need to go faster than my skis want to go - nor do I typically find the need for my skis to leave the ground.

I would probably choose the 163 for myself, just for a little more maneuverability in trees, but could see the 170 being really fun on bigger mtns with more open terrain. The 170 felt true to size.

What's your first impression of this ski? How did it feel?

My first thoughts were, man I wish there were some soft bumps and natural snow for these! I think they’d be a blast in the right conditions. On hardpack they’re totally fine, hold their own, but not the most exciting.

For what type of terrain would you recommend this ski? Why does it perform well in that terrain?

Definitely wanted pow, or soft spring snow for these. They have some power for sure, so big mtn terrain could be a lot of fun. They definitely want a more buttery turn.

What's the appropriate ability level and/or style for this ski? Why is it appropriate for that type of skier?

Advanced to expert. They do feel a like they need a little more effort to drive these to their potential.

Not my choice for frozen groomers, but would be a blast in better conditions.

Solid ski. These felt nice and sturdy on the ice/hard pack. They didn't chatter and felt like they could be really playful in more snow.

These would be great on powder/packed powder as well as the firmer stuff. I think they’d also be sweet to take in the trees. They can be a little playful and seemed fine on the ice.

Advanced skiers would appreciate this ski. It delivered on the ice but you can tell it’d be really fun with more snow.

These were on the heavier side but were manageable. No chatter and decent for the boiler plate conditions.

Obsessed with this ski and now I want a pair! Simply just a fun time and able to do anything I want. Responsive and intuitive. Very versatile for a freestyle oriented twin tip. As a former racer, this ski took me by surprise and I can't wait to ski it again!

Literally anything from groomers, trees, park, freeride terrain, etc.

Very nimble. Quick ski to pivot.

Variable terrain. Ski was quick to maneuver through Variable conditions and terrain.

Intermediate to advanced. Forgiving enough for intermediate skiers to feel comfortable on but the ski has enough power for a more advanced skier.

If you could change anything about these skis, what would you change and why?

A little longer camber profile might give the ski just a little more stability in the tip and tail.

What's your first impression of this ski? How did it feel?

This ski was a really pleasant surprise for me, in an unexpected way. On my test card, I had the Nightstick 104. Unfortunately, they didn’t have one on the rack when I went down to pick one up, so I grabbed the 97 instead. Somewhere along the gondola ride though, I forgot that I had the 97 instead of the 104. As such, I skied my first turns under the impression that I was on a 104, and immediately found myself impressed by the way they plowed through the slopped up snow. And then, I remembered: I was on the 97. As such my impression was this: the 97 punches above its weight class when it comes to floatation and the ability to handle chopped up snow. What was really cool about the experience though, was that when you put it on edge, it felt more like a 97 waist than a 104. In other words, the Nightstick 97 proved to be a ski that handled loose snow like a wider ski, but with the carving capabilities of a mid 90’s ski. Pretty cool!

For what type of terrain would you recommend this ski? Why does it perform well in that terrain?

These skis handled loose sloppy snow really well, and loved to pop in and out of bumps. I didn’t have a chance to take them in the park, but I bet they’d be fun on jumps as well.

What's the appropriate ability level and/or style for this ski? Why is it appropriate for that type of skier?

Intermediates and up. They’re easy enough to ski that someone still learning could handle them, while more advanced skiers could put their energy to use.

If you could change anything about these skis, what would you change and why?

Honestly nothing, I was really impressed how this ski outperformed its waist class!

The Nightstick 97 is pretty easy to ski, not too demanding. Significant rocker in both tip and tail allow you to swing them around easily. These skis are hard to upset but they also don't really want to "lock in" too much when put on edge.

For what type of terrain would you recommend this ski? Why does it perform well in that terrain?

The Nightstick would really be at home in the terrain park, as well as soft snow and some adventure skiing.

What's the appropriate ability level and/or style for this ski? Why is it appropriate for that type of skier?

I would recommend these for Intermediate-Advanced skiers. Fairly intuitive and approachable. Expert skiers may hit the performance ceiling in certain types of terrain.

If you could change anything about these skis, what would you change and why?

This ski is freestyle oriented and I don't ski switch very much so the closer-to-center mounting point is not my favorite.

What's your first impression of this ski? How did it feel?

On paper, this shouldn't really be my type of ski, but I absolutely love it. The Nightstick 97 has a consistent and smooth flex to it, allowing it to absorb bumps and imperfections in the terrain with ease. At the same time, the metal underfoot and full sidewall provide a surprising amount of grip and energy to make it feel like a real ski. It ends up being quite predictable for a park-oriented twin.

For what type of terrain would you recommend this ski? Why does it perform well in that terrain?

While the shape of the ski certainly leans more to the park side of the performance spectrum, it feels quite composed on variable snow conditions and a whole host of terrain. I think it's way more versatile than the twin tip title gives credit for. Works great in bumps and trees and floats decently in softer snow.

What's the appropriate ability level and/or style for this ski? Why is it appropriate for that type of skier?

The Nightstick 97 is a solid advanced skier type of ski. It can bump up or down depending on the application or preference of the skier, but overall, it's a ski with a high performance ceiling and a lower floor due to the flexible nature.

If you could change anything about these skis, what would you change and why?

For what it is and what it's supposed to be I wouldn't change a thing.
