Did this length feel short, long, or just right? Would you recommend sizing up or down, or does it ski "true to size?" Would you choose this length for yourself?

Just right! I could go 185, but I would lose out on the high speed stability that I want in a ski like this.

What's your first impression of this ski? How did it feel?

Love this ski! So surfy and playful yet still solid enough to want to push. The taper shape and rocker profile are the definition of directional freeride big mountain and it feels like it on snow as well. The maneuverability is insane, such a good tree ski but also feels at home when opening it up and letting them run. They aren't overly stiff so you can manipulate them and have some forgiveness but they are also not soft so you can trust them. Very well rounded powder ski!

Big mountain freeride, powder, touring.

What's the appropriate ability level and/or style for this ski? Why is it appropriate for that type of skier?

What's your first impression of this ski? How did it feel?

So surfy and smeary, it's insane! Far more maneuverable and intuitive than you would think for a 115 mm underfoot ski. The ability to put this thing sideways and just coast is so fun. The taper and rocker profile work together to give you an easy time when in soft snow, but as soon as you want to put the power down and let them run, they are happy to do so. I think a lot of people looking for a powder ski that are directional skiers and don't want to work hard will love this thing. Also if you are an aggressive freeride skier that likes to get creative and slashy, this is one of the ones to consider. It isn't as damp as something like the Blank or Kore 112, but it is quicker and slicey-er. The metal underfoot helps a lot with our variable conditions here on the east coast. It is slightly overkill for around here, but the shaping brings it into the conversation for a powder ski here due to how tight our trees are. 10 out of 10 for me!

Big mountain, freeride, powder, trees, natural features. Anything deep snow really!

I mounted my personal pair +2 cm from recommended and love it! I liked the demo pair at recommended but like the extra slashiness of the +2 cm mount point on mine.

Great powder ski but probably not for much else.

Appropriate Terrain

Powder. Width, rocker and tip profile make it a great directiononal powder ski.

Appropriate Skier

Intermediate to Advanced skier. This ski is super easy to turn.

Other Thoughts

Personally, give it a full sidewall and make it less directional.

Surprisingly not as much as a fan of the 115 that I was with the 105’s. These felt bulkier and stiffer, and much less playful than I found with the 105’s. Admittedly it’s been a day of pow skiing and about 5 hours between the two skis so fatigue is a factor. I think these skis are an acquired taste for someone looking to do some hard charging on a storm day.

Appropriate Terrain

Deep snow and cut up powder. These things are stiff and will smash through most features thrown its way.

Appropriate Skier

Advanced due to the overall lack of playfulness. Ya gotta know what you want when riding these!

I would’ve just demoed the 105 again!

Definitely a straighter ski, so felt like it skied long for a 185cm. Probably size down if you're unsure about it. I'd ski this length for me, but I like a slightly longer ski anyway.

Overall Impression

Good ski and relatively stable at speed, but a bit hooky in the tip. Good flotation, but not as nimble as some. Definitely a straighter longer ski - felt like it skied long. Lightweight, so I could see this as a backcountry ski as well. Overall, not a bad ski, just not the best. Not as 'slurvy' as the K2 Reckoner KF - more directional and harder to break loose from a turn.

Appropriate Terrain

I think this ski is more suited to open terrain - tighter terrain would take a lot more work to make this thing turn. It's more of a tanker than a speedboat. The stability of the ski would be good at higher speeds associated with more open terrain as well.

Appropriate Skier

Intermediate to advanced skiers will appreciate this ski. It would probably be a bit overwhelming for a newer skier - skis long and isn't the softest flex.

Other Thoughts

I'd probably make it less directional - but then it wouldn't be as well suited for 'charging' which might defeat the point? Honestly, if you accept the fact that this is a pretty directional ski designed for bigger turns in open terrain, you'll get along with it just fine.

Overall Impression

The Maverick 115 CTI is a different animal than the 105. I definitely prefer skiing the 105, but I understand why this exists. If you're truly looking for a big mountain charger, this is a fantastic option and has more modern features than most skis that achieve this much stability. It's like a purpose built weapon for Alaska, or similar terrain. The tip does add in some surfy feel and maneuverability, but overall it's a pretty aggressive ski that can be somewhat hard to wrangle in certain situations.

Appropriate Terrain

Big, open, high speed terrain. If you're looking for a powder ski for average resort skiing, I would say Bent 110 or Bent Chetler 120 is better for most skiers, or the Maverick 105. This is a specific tool for a specific job.

Appropriate Skier

Experts only. I honestly don't think many skiers who fall into the "advanced" category need this ski, and even among experts, it's best for the aggressive, high speed chargers.

Other Thoughts

I'd give it a touch more tail rocker I suppose, but that would be a personal thing, and it would take away from the true purpose of the ski.
