DESCRIPTION

The 2027 Black Crows Atris Birdie with Tyrolia Attack LYT 11 GW Bindings brings the iconic Atris platform to a women's-specific size run, scaling the big-mountain ski down to lengths that make the most of its character for shorter skiers. It keeps the same wide waist, the same construction, and the same big-mountain personality as the original Atris, just dialed in for a different rider profile. We paired the Atris Birdie with the Tyrolia Attack LYT 11 GW because of the Attack’s light weight and reliability for all mountain and freeride skiers. Thanks to a 15% reduction in weight, the Attack LYT 11 is the perfect binding option for lighter weight freeriders, and keeps this setup on the lighter side without sacrificing power or performance.

Why we like it:

What's striking about the Atris Birdie is how genuine the platform feels at the smaller sizes. A lot of women's big-mountain skis get watered down or stripped of their personality in shorter lengths. The Atris Birdie keeps every bit of the original ski's stability and authority, which is why it earns serious credibility on the mountain.

Who it's for:

Advanced and expert women skiers who want a real big-mountain ski with no compromises. A great fit for skiers in soft-snow regions, freeride-leaning all-mountain riders, and women who want a ski that can charge powder, handle variable conditions, and still feel manageable in trees and tighter terrain.

Highlights:

Underneath the topsheet, the Atris Birdie is built exactly like its bigger sibling. A poplar wood core delivers a damp, controlled feel underfoot, and fiberglass laminates contribute torsional stiffness and edge hold without bulking up the swing weight. Semi-cap construction wraps the ski with ABS sidewalls running the full length, which is a more committed build than you'll find on a lot of women's-specific big-mountain skis at this width. The double rocker profile makes the ski uncommonly easy to pivot and pivot-smear despite its width, while the medium camber underfoot keeps the edge engaged when you need it. The slightly straighter sidecut adds stability for a ski that lives well at speed, and the firm-but-progressive flex pattern is forgiving in chop without losing the structure you need on steeper, faster terrain. Fine-tuned for 2027, the Attack LYT 11 is designed to bring the ideal level of safety and performance to skiers looking for a light weight binding for a wide-bodied all-mountain or freeride ski. The new FR LYT Toe is 15% lighter, and offers a sliding AFD for precise and reliable release as well as plenty of elastic travel. Tyrolia’s SX FR Heel is easy to step into, offering an intuitive and frustration-free experience whether you’re stepping into your skis to start your day, or cleaning up from a pow day yardsale.

Things to consider:

The Atris Birdie leans toward soft snow and freeride more than groomer carving. Skiers focused on hard-snow performance should look elsewhere in the line.

Fit & sizing considerations:

The Atris Birdie skis true to length. Pick the size that matches your usual freeride or big-mountain length.

This was a great and versatile freeride ski which performed very well on hardpack and groomers for its waist width.

Did this length feel short, long, or just right? Would you recommend sizing up or down, or does it ski "true to size?" Would you choose this length for yourself?
Skied a little short for me! I’d be interested in sizing up if there’s a 176ish.

What's your first impression of this ski? How did it feel?
This was a great and versatile freeride ski which performed very well on hardpack and groomers for its waist width. Today, there is some wind blown stuff in between the melt freeze icy moguls which I tested out, and they were really fun where there was fresh. Super easy to hop turn, very poppy on side hits, and again quicker edge to edge than their length and width would suggest. Not the ski for me on the east coast despite a pretty solid edge hold but could see them being super fun with more snow + steeps.
For what type of terrain would you recommend this ski? Why does it perform well in that terrain?
Pretty good on the groomers for their width, nice rebound in shorter radius turns, but they could really shine with playfulness and maneuverability in more technical bumps and trees.
What's the appropriate ability level and/or style for this ski? Why is it appropriate for that type of skier?
It’s not super demanding so all skier types may enjoy its versatility and fun, definitely can get going pretty fast and enjoyable for experts who can best leverage its flexibility.
