2027 Elan Ripstick 88 Black Edition Skis
SKU ADDMMT26Elan has finally delivered what we've all been asking for: the 2027 Ripstick 88 Black Edition, the most carving-focused option in the Black Edition lineup. It pairs the Carbon Deck platform with the Quadrod system and C-Ply carbon reinforcement to deliver serious frontside performance in a non-metal package. It's built for skiers who want the energy and versatility of a Ripstick 88, paired with the locked-in, composed feel of something more substantial.
Why we like it:
The on-edge performance is the standout. With the added carbon and the narrower platform, this ski grips and holds with real authority, especially on hardpack. It feels like a frontside-focused ski that hasn't had to give up energy to get there.
Who it's for:
Advanced and expert skiers who spend most of their time on groomers but want a ski with serious carving chops and added composure. A great fit for hard chargers who don't want to commit to a full metal ski but still want strong damping and edge hold.
Highlights:
The Black Edition build adds a lot to the standard Ripstick formula at this width. The Quadrod system uses four carbon rods running through the ski, which significantly improves torsional stability and translates to crisper, more locked-in carving. C-Ply carbon frame reinforcement adds carbon where it counts structurally, giving the ski a stronger backbone for high-speed work and aggressive edging. Underneath, the Tubelite woodcore keeps the swing weight low so the ski never feels labored, and Flax fibre takes care of vibration damping naturally. The Amphibio profile gives you that signature Elan blend of easy turn initiation and strong edge hold, and at 88 underfoot it really shows on hardpack. SST slanted sidewalls keep edge transmission direct, and the Sintered Race Structured base is fast and durable.
Things to consider:
Soft-snow performance is limited at this width; if you ski a lot of off-trail terrain, you'll want one of the wider Ripsticks. The Black Edition flex is also more demanding than the standard 88, so progressing skiers may want to start with the non-Black-Edition version.
Fit & sizing considerations:
Skis true to size. Carving-focused skiers can size down a touch for quicker turns; faster skiers can size up for stability.
